(76,132 posts)The naphthenes & substituted aromatics in gas will dissolve PE. (Assuming typical polyethylene bags.)
But, in hours, not seconds.
It will get to the car. Not sure how much would be left the next morning, though.

I'm a retired physical organic chemist. I know polymer behavior & solubility coefficients.

Like dissolves like & they're an awful lot a like.
Styrofoam melts even faster with acetone!
If you poured it into a cup, before you got it 20% full, the bottom of the cup would be gone.
Fun to do on purpose! (There's always wait time in a laboratory. LOL!)
