One of Donald Trumps first actions as President was to fire US Attorney Preet Bharara. The move was met with widespread condemnation. Bharara had become a hero in New York City after prosecuting a number of the citys worst financial cheats.
The former US Attorney now works as a distinguished scholar at NYU and hosts a couple of podcasts. Bharara recently talked about Trumps New York City legal troubles with Slates Dahlia Lithwick.
Lithwick asked, His tax returns are in the hands of Cyrus Vance Jr., the district attorney of Manhattan. Theyre working to flip folks in the Trump organization. I wonder what piece of that youre watching or are you just watching all of it? What do you expect to see in terms of accountability and having some sense that there is some closure to any of this?
Bharara responded, The one that we know about most directly and most prominently is the one you mentioned, the Manhattan district attorneys investigation into Trumps finances and business dealings. I dont know because Ive not been in the grand jury, Ive not interviewed the witnesses. Cy Vance doesnt call me up and tell me stuff, but there is some signaling going on.
The former US Attorney continued, Hes (Cy Vance) done something else that is less common, which is hire an outside lawyer, Mark Pomerantz, whos a very distinguished, well-respected lawyer in New York. Im not going to put too much weight on it, but it seems like the kind of move you make when you believe that theres going to be a charge or theres a good likelihood of a charge, because its a pretty public thing to do.
Democrats have eagerly awaited charges against Trump in New York City. And while these things tend to take time, the walls seem to be caving in on the ex-president.

(58,785 posts)turned out to be. I'd be interested in current polling of the So FL Hispanics, typically conservative, who stepped up to make the difference. Most won't feel or admit they made a mistake, of course, but they were counting on a winner and lost.

(20,682 posts)doesn't sound like an expense you incur casually. It also doesn't sound like a guy you wear on your arm to the dance: That guy won't like you wasting his time with empty posturing.
That guy sounds like serious action.
I can't wait to see who frump hires to take Pomerantz on! I think Rudy's been disbarred...Cohen is jailed, All the other attorneys wont want the ape as a client unless he pays up front....Is the pillow guy free?
