She is not a Democrat. What I want is for her challenge to Trump Republicans to be taken up by other Republicans and split that party into two camps. That will benefit us far more than a meaningless change of parties by her.
I don't like her. I don't like Republicans in general. But, as long as the GQP maintains its ass-kissing relationship with the Trumper side of the party, we have a very serious problem that can bite us on the ass at every turn.
Liz Cheney should draw people to her thinking, not inject that thinking into the Democratic Party.
She is not our friend, but she can help split the GQP into two factions, and that will benefit us in the long run.

(58,605 posts)There are damn few repubs who are threatening to leave the party that I would want to "join" the Dem party.
For one thing, there are really no moderate repubs left. They've been purged.
Ms Cheney is free to start her own party if she wishes, we could use a true conservative party in the country, but she's no Dem for sure.

(16,685 posts)There's no room for someone with her views in the Democratic Party. But calling out GQP malfeasance without cutting and running first?
More of this please.

(2,336 posts)The idea is to form a new party, a party that doesn't follow "The National Enquirer" or "The Orange Haired One Who Shall Not Be Named." A completely new party. Won't be the first time. Once the parties were flipped, dems were the bad guys, repugs the ones that wanted social justice.
Another third party would be ideal. The Independent Party has never been able to get far, mostly because of the overwhelming majorities of the other two parties but if they start to split, then there is hope for democracy. At present, our democracy is doomed. Without free and fair elections, there is no democracy.

That's generally a big problem but something that can work to our advantage in this case.
Question: "Which of these is your favorite color; crimson, scarlet, or blue?
Result: crimson - 30%, scarlet - 30%, blue - 40%.
Blue wins!

(7,271 posts)I have to say, it's pretty damn weird for hard, extreme right winger of the Conservative party can say and act so reasonably, so responsible, so clear headed and intellectually honest. I can't remember the last time I witnessed a hard line Conservative be intellectually honest.
But have no fear, Liz Cheney would no sooner join the Democratic Party than jump into a pit of rattlesnakes or boa constrictors.
Never going to happen, and I would not recommend she join us. I wouldn't obviously have a problem for her to lend support and vote on our legislation, but she doesn't have to join our party to support good policies with her vote.
