Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsGet ready for Repuke presidential candidate CHEENEE. Will be *tough* competition.
She is positioned to put the pieces of her wingnut party back together After-Trump, ideologically pure and fierce with *concentrated*, horrendous wingnut policies. She will be tough for us to beat unless we get our large non-voting constituencies out to vote and the natural shrinking of the Old Whites of the Repukes takes effect. Despite the animosity she's getting from the Trump zombies now, they *will* unite when they see a chance to take power under her. She will be tough to beat.

(21,945 posts)If she's running against Trump humpers like DeSantis, et al? I don't think she has a chance.
She can sure do a lot of damage by turning voters off the GOP's new "elections are pointless" stance though.

The Trump humpers will get on board with Cheney once they see if the money is following her

(9,312 posts)The Trump sycophants don't think past the 2022 elections. In 2024, GOP dynamics will be very different. Trump is unlikely to make it to the primaries, but even if he does, anyone running for President will either have to drop out or run against him. It should be clear to everyone that running against Trump in this scenario is the only way to make it past the primaries. If Trump drops out before the primaries, on the other hand, there will be a whole bunch of trumpies trampling over each other to claim the title of his successor, and only Cheney not being engaged in this circus. Once again, she stands a much better chance when she stands out from the crowd.
Cheney (or her daddy) are thinking out their chess game a few moves ahead of the rest of the checkers players in the race.

(2,970 posts)Sometimes a party imploding is really just a party imploding. Yeah, she might be trying to position herself, but this whole thing is an unmitigated disaster for the GOP. I can't even understand the mental gymnastics you need to go through to see it differently and that we all better "look out! she's got a devious plan!". No. She doesn't. The GOP is splintering before our eyes. REJOICE!

(2,970 posts)It certainly isn't "necessary", but it's my opinion that they are crazy and that these opinions are not as valid as mine based on available evidence. Is it necessary to call them "crazy". No. Is it "necessary" for you take offense at that? Nope. But you choose to do so anyway. So, feel free to carry on and to be offended.

(7,715 posts)Against Joe and Kamala, or for that matter, anyone in the Republican party.
I frankly don't see "after Trump" at the moment....I might see a post-Trump R party if he is indicted and possibly convicted. But that would destroy the Republican/MAGA party with the majority of the electorate, even more so than they are today.
I just don't see a scenario where Cheney wins over anyone.

What will the other half of the party be?

(6,513 posts)discredited. The only way we will get rid of him is if 1) he dies, or 2) he is sent to jail. He is in control of the Repubs no matter what he does.
He will crush anyone from his party who dares to run against him. Right now he's doing a purge. He is more like Hitler than we have ever seen. A wannabe dictator who will destroy our democracy.
Right now he is destroying the two party system. That is a factor that comes up in fascist systems. Either destroy it outright or disguise it so no one realizes that the party is a gang led by one guy.
I wouldn't remain a Repub for nothing, now. If any of them have a conscious, they would renounce and leave. He'll get them sooner or later, anyway. It's like trying to decide whether to leave Europe at the start of WWII.

(6,513 posts)Donald Trump is a mobster. He doesn't follow the same pathway as Reagan. He is a mobster no matter if he is in the WH or not.
Look at what he has done. He is still in command of the party, still commanding loyalty from those cronies in office, and he's able to wheel and deal. He's a new kind of mobster with ties to our enemies, and the kind who got a gold statue erected to him. He's that sickening.
This is new territory. I know that Joe and Kamala want us all to pretend to be friends with them, but I am failing. I still want to shun them. I want them all vaccinated, and then I want them to go far away.

The average voter isn't engaged in the machinations between the pro-Trump and never-Trump people in the Republican Party, and other then her family name (not that popular among Republicans today), there's nothing to suggest she'll be a strong choice among self-identified Republican Primary voters.

(70,683 posts)than she or any others? They have sway in their tiny closed world of the House, nearly nothing outside there. I distinctly remember how our Squad were pooh-poohed as being insignificant newbies/backbenchers even by our own Dem leaders.
As for her selling point(s): She's a privileged spawn, is now built up as a Voice even if by the media, will be at the front when Drumpf's infection of their party is inevitably burned off, and, if not the *one* actual future leader, can help propel somebody else, but most of all - which is a BIG selling point - she is an authentic IDEOLOGICAL wingnut with all the horrid policies and heritage (her daddy) that entails, meaning she can put the pieces back together of her execrable party after the NON-ideological Drumpf has done the damage to it that he has.
Look, I don't know why my little opinion has riled up some posters. I don't claim the special credentials or authority that some do, and I certainly am not any kind of wingnut to be cheering her on, not even if she is sincere in standing against Drumpf in this one instance. I am puzzled that other opinions on this internet discussion board are given special status.
I am not "predicting," just will not be surprised.
She has NO support.
Getting the Lincoln project and Bill Kristol to support you doesn't a political future make.
