Her father was a miserable quasi-criminal but he is powerful. I have to believe the Liz Cheney has powerful friends and her father's capacity to hate and get what he wants is frightening.
Its good they are turned against trump.
Who would ever have though i would be rooting for a cheney?

(11,738 posts)That would be the best scenario for actual democracy, social justice, and equality. For both factions to be so devastated by this conflict that the remnants of conservatism are too weak to do anything politically for the next 100 years.

(31,261 posts)What traditional republicans will do is peel off moderate voters from Democrats and end up electing Trumpists.
What happened in the recent Texas US House jungle primary should set off alarm bells for our side. Two avowed Trumpists will contest the General for two reasons, first we could not get our shit together there and had 10 Democrats on the primary ballot, second, eventhough republicans had 11 candidates on the same ballot, the Trumpists vote is not as thin as people like us want to think, even with nine other republicans, the Trumpists were able to get their two most discordant voices into the runoff.

(4,533 posts)Kind of an impressive family. One thing I like about America is that we can reinvent ourselves. Dick Cheney flunked out of Yale. Which means he didnt go to classes or turn in work. All yalies, in my opinion, are smart enough to graduate. They let him back in and he flunked out again! But Lynn stuck with her guy. Dick then went to his state college and got into the Ph D program at Wisconsin. He didnt finish that either but he kept on plugging, and became maybe the most powerful person in the world. I knew a guy who was in the top ten of his freshman class at Yale, but then flunked out. He went to the University of Illinois where he flunked every class. But he talked a professor into having faith in him. He then got his Ph D in economics and became an economics professor. Only in America!

(15,325 posts)I just thought he was there because of Wyoming oil merged with Bush Texas oil & they all rode to the White House together.
I've never ever considered Dick's higher ed, but now we know.
I see why his bio never bragged about his education pedigree.

I've seen the Dick in action during the 80's (met him twice - ) He was ruthless and quick when it came to dealing with opponents large or small.
If she were half as powerful as she thought she was, she would not have been in a position to be purged.

(31,261 posts)He owns their party lock, stock and barrel.
The best thing that the Bushes, Cheneys and other so-called traditional republicans can do now to to publicly come out and say that anyone that loves the country should vote for Democrats in EVERY election from now on until there is real change. Instead people like Cheney fantasize about starting another party, all that will do is fracture the anti-Trump, anti-crazy republican vote and allow Trump sycophants to cling to or grab power.
The cowards ousted Cheney in a voice vote, they would not go on record as having licked Trumps foul ass.

I also have to assume they are following the wishes of their big money donors, like they always do.

(914 posts)The name Chaney means something to entrenched republicans and Trump just took her out of power. Its kind of unreal how publicly and easily it was done. Somewhat frightening. Its not ok how much power this new crop of republicans(some are old guard but have joined the cult) have.
Trump just took out the third most powerful Republican in the House and did so publicly. Its kind of impressive.
