that a large percentage of people get involved in politics for "personal gain" rather than "public service", those types usually have some sort of "skeletons" in their closet already. They probably have a history of tax cheating, underhanded dealing, affairs, etc... It comes with the territory, so to speak. So its probably quite easy to "blackmail" many politicians in one way or another.

To this day, I don't know why the Democrats didn't make a bigger deal about Kavenaugh's unexplained credit card payoff. That was a tell-tale sign of a disguised payment. Dude either had gambling debts or was being blackmailed/bank rolled for something.
