(CNN) - Rep. Liz Cheney is outlining her next steps in the aftermath of her ousting from leadership, telling NBC, "I intend to be the leader, one of the leaders, in a fight to help to restore our party," and warning that former President Donald Trump is willing "to unravel the democracy to come back into power."
The Wyoming congresswoman, and now former House Republican Conference chair, also didn't rule out a run for president in the "Today" interview that aired Thursday morning, but she did confirm she will run for reelection for her US House seat next year.
Cheney said "silence is not an option" when speaking out against Trump, and she said admonishments from her fellow Republicans to move forward are not possible because the damage that the former president is causing is "an ongoing threat." The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney reiterated her assertion Wednesday that Trump cannot become president again.
"He's unfit," she said. "He never again can be anywhere close to the Oval Office."

Well, we all know he's a democracy-poisoning snake. Even THEY (McCarthy and McConnell and all of them) know that. Even many of his Trumpers know that.
But they don't care. I don't know why they don't care-- why they think this wreck of a rich man is worth such a cost.
And with McCarthy, it's not even personal adoration he feels to Trump. It's just the craven desire for the temporary power that he gets from being within Trump's fumes.

(37,160 posts)Get together like-minded people who actually have power: fellow congresspeople, state reps, governors, etc. The people we always here about off the record, griping namelessly.
Admit that Democrats being in control isn't the horror show you like to claim it is to rally your voters. Sure, you find us ideologically offensive, but even the most progressive Democratic initiatives will have us closer to the Eisenhower administration than to Venezuela or Castro's Cuba.
And then join together on a mission to torpedo the Raving Monster Loony Party. Deny it success, so that no politician looking to their future sees an advantage in sticking with it (this includes you).
Nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

(1,990 posts)Donald Trump didn't want to be President. It was a scam to steal money from the gullible to pay off his debts and probably start some new media platform. He had no acceptance speech written on election night 2016. The perfect storm or events lead to him winning and he was miserable the entire time.
The only reason Donald Trump ran for re-election is because of the legal exposure he created. He knows his crimes and knows that now that these things are being looked at(tax fraud, bank loan fraud, insurance fraud), he is caught. But he lost, and indictments will be coming on these State charges at minimum.
There is no reason for him to run, again, for something he never wanted in the first place. This will especially be true once he is indicted by NY State. He lost the popular vote, twice, by huge margins. He was impeached twice. He is disgraced. What possible angle could they run him as a candidate from? They can't just shut down conventions and give him the nomination - he isn't the sitting POTUS. Others will want to run, knowing Trump is clearly a losing proposition. Its May 2021. Three years from now, he will be a bad memory.

Trump, and the GOP, if given a chance will make Hitler and the NAZIs look like pikers.
We would have death camps on every corner, and our good friends who really think that Trump wasn't given a chance will fight for the chance to be parts of the the camps (administrators, guards, food services, etc.).
Don't believe it - talk to one of them, they no longer believe in reality.

(412 posts)I have some family who may think like this. Have a sister and BIL who believe China stole the election for Biden. They do not believe Russia had any part in the 2016 & 2020 elections. Massive voter fraud happened in 2020 in ONLY the Presidential Election. When I point out all the Candidates are on the ballot so if one vote is invalid the whole ballot is so all the votes on that ballot need to be thrown out including ones for the GOP if the people slip their vote. Crickets from them.
Also I am not allowed to see my nieces and nephews since I would be a bad influence on them because I am liberal.

I do think he wants to be King of America, not President.

(15,099 posts)Whether Wyoming voters prefer her or not, we will know that next year.
And I have been saying for a while now that she absolutely has Presidential aspirations. But will her party be willing to nominate her?

Fortunately there is a world where people opposite in every way function quite well.
If one doesn't know that, it's one's own fault.
