Miami-based Norwegian is the third-largest cruise line in the world and has three ports of departure in Florida Miami, Port Canaveral and Tampa. It also makes stops in Key West. But it hasn't operated in the U.S. since the federal government shut down all cruises last year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

(21,639 posts)I mean doesn't the cruise line have a right, (maybe even an obligation) to accept ONLY passengers that are fully vaccinated? Even if Biden doesn't request it? It's THEIR decision and their decision ONLY! What can this asshole DeSantis do if the cruise line decide to accept ONLY vaccinated passengers?
THIS could be very interesting if they SUED the state of Florida.

(21,639 posts)Lots of people DO! I'm just asking WHY the cruise ship business's have to listen to DeSantis? I'm hoping they tell DeSantis to go to hell and do things the way they want to!

(7,593 posts)The Constitution specifically states that powers not enumerated to the federal government are reserved by the States. Just as a state can create a law prohibiting a business or employer from asking about previous crimes, salary information, sexual orientation or whether one use birth control, they can also prohibit a business or employer from asking about vaccination status.
That said, the federal government does have an enumerated power to regulate interstate commerce and derives from that the power to takes measures to prevent the spread of disease into the United States and between states. Biden could enforce a regulation prohibiting the sailing in federal waters of ships with unvaccinated passengers or crew onboard. Such a regulation would take supremacy over Florida law.

(26,475 posts)I would think that DeSantis would have an inside track on getting him to use Florida as it's home port.
