General Discussion

I did this two weeks after my 2nd Moderna vaccine shot as instructed. I rode the subway in the middle of the day in the middle of the work week and noticed just how empty everything was. I was getting very strange vibes. I didn't feel as safe as I did a year ago. Less people gives perpetrators less resistance to commit a crime. More people. More crowds. More resistance. More witnesses. Less crime.
Now that the CDC has given the all clear for vaccinated people to go maskless. it's time to full re-open the city and drop the mask mandates. The city needs to encourage people to get out and about. We need to get back to normal.

(7,611 posts)the things that were lost in NYC during the plague but decided no one would want to hear my bemoaning the loss of places like Brooks Brothers or the 21 Club (although I did think they would be there forever, like General Motors). But the big City is about to come alive again. Broadway opens in September. Time to start planning a trip!
Never thought I would miss the annoying tourists, but I do.

(21,841 posts)I have been riding it on occasion since at least September 2020. It got noticably more crowded in the last 2 weeks.
Last Friday on my way home from the office, a small crowd got on at Times Square. Seems that a lot of the new riders are tourists, not commuters.

(4,605 posts)in over a year last weekend. It was mid-afternoon on a Saturday. My car was about 2/3rds full and seemed pretty "normal". Everyone was wearing a mask including the weird guy passing through the car pan-handling.

(Sorry. This post has made me feel nostalgic for the Big City.)

(7,611 posts)I had so many adventures. Used to go to the University Clubs. Once I took a girl to enjoy the rowing on Central Park Lake ( That's a Rogers and Hart song). Oh My Gosh. I love that City.

(7,611 posts)All I can say: the Clintons, and the Kennedys used to go there. I liked being at Hemgways or Bogart's usual seat. I guess I should be taken out and hung. Still loved going where Frank Sinatra took Jackie Kennedy on a date. I love those old places.
