NYC Mayor: Garcia picks up steam in New York City mayoral race after snagging Times endorsement

Politico

NEW YORK — Kathryn Garcia is on the upswing, and her opponents in the New York City mayoral race are responding in kind.

In the days following the coveted New York Times endorsement, Team Garcia reported a boost in fundraising for her underdog mayoral campaign and more media interest in a recent press conference on public safety. She appeared on Good Day New York and The Brian Lehrer Show — two regular destinations for Gracie Mansion contenders — to discuss her platform for the office.

And, after months of being treated as a worthy but nonthreatening opponent, the city’s former sanitation commissioner became the target of criticism from a frontrunner on the trail.

“We have definitely seen an uptick in fundraising since the endorsement,” campaign spokesperson Lindsey Green said on Tuesday. “We had our biggest single day of fundraising on the campaign today, and our biggest 24-hour period since the Times endorsements was announced.”
