Swalwell is an extremely bright guy and an ambitious one. But hes also honest and honorable. And hes also, I believe, willing and able to counter attacks by Greene and her little gremlins with appropriate force -- including physical.
(Probably wouldnt punch Marjie, of course, because she is technically a woman.)

We all have seen this for years, decades, lifetimes..... it is the way a too large percentage of humanity is... It shows a stunted growth in intellectual and emotional intelligence.... It is what it is, and Dems better figure out a way to fight back pretty damn quick.
Actually, as thrilled as I am that Swalwell said what he did, in a way it now opens up the door for repubs to say the same thing about masks, or anything else.. Of course the door was open anyway, eh....
Or maybe, forget that and I am just happy he said it... can't decide.. LOL

(12,450 posts)And awake people.
It's dark triads and bullies that act like that.
It's not mental illness that drives a bully it's thier personality type,or who they are, since dark triad assholes can't be helped via therapy.
I know others say it's mental illness but I say it's not.
It's who they ARE. And there is no therapy to fix a bad person .
Biophilic
(3,477 posts)trying to think of them as ok human beings. They are bad people. Ugh, I truly hate that.
I_UndergroundPanther
(12,450 posts)You should feel no guilt that abusive assholes choose to give up their own humanity. It is damaging, traumatizing and painful to be around bad people. A visceral angry and disgust mingled with rejection, angry, even hateful reaction a person with empathy can have against these assholes in human suits is actually a strong normal positive yet discerning boundary to have.Bad people cause harm whenever they are around others. People who pretend these people are just like themselves deep down actually are in denial that some people because of who they are choose to forgo the most basic requirements that truly matter to be considered a human being.
Just because they share some bodily functions and a few emotional things with regular human beings does not mean they haven't chosen to be inhuman to human beings or that they care.
Recognizing, reacting to and keeping bad people out of power and away from vulnerable people in society is a much unjustly maligned important function in human society. Hate can fuel a desire to remove social toxins causing harm and it can fuel a strong protective reaction for a good reason. We would be incapable of hate if it didn't have a survival function.Stopping people that exist to harm and cause pain, suffering, exploit, bully or destroy human beings and animals is a noble cause that is so much needed now.

(3,477 posts)part of a group surviving. Thanks for the insight. Somehow I do feel guilty as if I just hadn't done enough to make things ok for everyone. I KNOW that's not true and the republicans have firmly imprinted that knowledge in my brain. I've led a pretty privileged and cosseted life. I'm 75 and finally having to confront something that I didn't really think existed. By the way, I'm a incest survivor but what these republicans are doing makes what my father did totally insignificant. He hurt one person, they are seriously hurting millions and they want to hurt them more. That's what I have such a hard time understanding. I think because there is no understanding. And, of course I feel so unable to do anything to make them pay for what they are doing. So I support, in anyway I can the Democratic party and its members and hope that the next generation will do what is necessary to safe guard the future of our country and its citizens. Damn I so want to be an avenging hero and make them pay for their evil now. Patience was never one of my virtues especially when I see something wrong.
I_UndergroundPanther
(12,450 posts)hating bad people does not make you a bad person.
I once told my therapist how much I hate bad people and how I wanted to wipe all of them off the planet forever... Than I asked her if I was a narcissist for hating them so much.
She told me the fact I even asked her that question proves to her I am not a narcissist(bad person).
That made me think and it helped me understand and explore the survival aspect and purpose of hate.

I cannot understand or abide cruelty in any form. I find it difficult to watch nature shows when predators are hunting. They must, of course, to survive, but I find it very stressful to watch their prey ending their lives in fear and pain. The GQP aren't playing around with Dems. They will KEEP this up until they're dealt with.
You can't keep ignoring the GQP, and letting them defile the Congress/Senate that way. Moscow stole Supreme Court Judgeships and rammed a lot of unqualified, federalist judges into many vacant benches across this country, so you know damn well they'd think nothing of allowing their members like the cave woman to keep up her harassment of Dems like she is, only now, her staff is getting in on the act.

You see that ass hole tRump butt-kisser from Georgia said that those traitors who attacked the capitol, injured and murdered one police officer on Jan. 6th were nothing more than "tourists." "Patriots." Some reporters tried to ask him if he stood by that, and he scowled at them, and walked away.
IF this was just a sticks and stones type of group, we wouldn't have had a January 6th 2021 attack on our US Capitol.

(7,817 posts)I am surprised Rep. Swalwell did not ask security to escort him from the building for assault. The staff member yelled an offensive command at a serving representative. Pull that on the floor of the house and you WILL be ejected.
An aide with @mtgreenee yelled at me to take my mask off. No one should be bullied for wearing a mask.
As I have read and heard it the Trumpists believe they are in charge and that they act for Donald (God) in all instances. I have seen this in my town and in our State Legislature. IMHO there are two ways to respond to an aggressive bully, and neither involves turning my back on one.
Hekate
(90,189 posts)It was not an instance of innocent trash talk among guys, it was a deliberate dissing of an elected politician from a party Greene despises. The staffer took his cue from MJTs treatment of AOC and others.
Marjorie Greene is a bully, pure and simple, and she never stops. Now we know she hires bullies to work for her, and they will never stop unless they are made to stop.

stopdiggin
(11,089 posts)at the very least to me. (perhaps deliberately? in order to focus attention and drive home a point?) But, whatever the intent -- this behavior doesn't garner glowing reviews in this corner. And I think it's counterproductive to draw attention away from Greene (and the traction gained there) -- only to add a layer of our own.
I know this puts me at odds with many here, but I just can't see this as helpful.
Edit: The media (all of them) absolutely love this sh*t. The American voter? Not nearly so much.

(90,189 posts)...and thugs. We are at that stage, now.
I wish people would stop attributing their behavior to some species of mental illness. I remember years ago when it was the fashion to try to understand playground and locker-room bullies, while their victims continued to be traumatized. Finally someone studied the studies, so to speak, and concluded: the first order of business is to make the bullies stop, not psychoanalyze them.
ScratchCat
(1,956 posts)Its real simple. It really is.
Every time they see someone wearing a mask, they see "Donald Trump is a Con Man".
Its that simple. If Donald Trump hadn't tried to make Covid about him, everyone except the hard core "anti's" would have had no problem wearing a mask. Masks remind these people everyday that most of humanity sees Trump as a con man. End of story.
