(32,626 posts)I was in high school when I fell in love with words. Thoreau was the first to calm the waters of my life with a few words. Putting them on paper is not easy for me, but there are always words to fit my fancy. I look forward to reading yours.

(217 posts)Thank you. For a while there, I had thought that reading was no longer a part of appreciating life. Facebook gave me a very limited platform for my writings. DU seems to have an unlimited reservoir of minds and ideas. I'm looking forward to this new and exciting platform to share my ideas. Thank you again. I hope to I will meet your expectations!

(11,558 posts)You have indeed found THE place. This is far and away the best site of its type I've ever seen. The requirements of accuracy and truth are stringent, which helps keep it that way. Being able to have a very high degree of confidence in what you might have just read is extremely valuable.
The newsgathering, the social awareness, and the exposition(s) you will find are absolutely top-notch. I would be absolutely shocked if you didn't love it here. I found the place by a link on truthout.org that was reposted from here - a roundup of the highlights/lowlights of conservative idiocy. I loved that feature, and in turn, came to love the place of its origin.
Bye for now....

Where the Mesquite Tree Grows
Growing up Along the Rio Grande - an Anthology
https://www.bokus.com/bok/9781973640059/where-the-mesquite-tree-grows/
Where the Mesquite Tree Grows is a poignant and riveting journey through the thoughts and recollections of a Mexican American young man who, like others of his generation, searched for purpose, meaning, and self-discovery. The journey begins in the cotton fields along the Rio Grande and follows the author through the 1960s cultural revolution, into the jungles of Vietnam, and finally to his return to his roots and his legacy along the Rio Grande.
It is a compilation of memories, thoughts, and even nightmares blended into a kaleidoscopic work that will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you think. The author examines and reveals in passionate writing his emotions and his sentiments about the past and current culture of his heritage and the social evolution within that culture, revealing his life experiences in words that define not only him but his generation.

(217 posts)I wasn't trying to publicize or advertise my book. But thanks for looking it up. I appreciate it. This was my first try at being a published writer. I've learned a lot, and hopefully my next one will be much, much better. Thanks again.

(32,556 posts)A word to the wise though. If you keep on using the all-caps in your post titles, people will start complaining. We're polite, but we don't like all-caps.
Welcome and glad to know you!
I live in Pittsburgh and we have a lot of mid-westerners here on DU. When you get a chance to look around a bit, you'll see that Texas has their own posting group here:

Where on the Rio Grande? I know New Mexico well, and my land here in SE Az is covered in mesquite.
One daughter attended college in Albuquerque, another in Las Cruces. My mom's ashes are in
White Oaks, outside Carrizozo. I always stop at Sparky's in Hatch for BBQ and beers.

I found this place while working to get John Kerry elected, saved my sanity when they voted in Bush again.

(7,189 posts)What I found THAT (2003?), that was the moment I signed up.
Every Monday morning, out of bed, shower, shave, then power up my powerful 386 PC running Windows-95, and with a cup of fresh-brewed wake-me-up, read Earl's "Top 10 Conservative Idiots."
My weekly ritual. I used to forward some of the best ones to my friends and family.
It got too much, I guess, for Earl so he dropped it after many years. I still miss it. But - there is always the Google machine!! Look for it!

(47,239 posts)in 2002, but didn't become a member until early 2004. There were several liberal forums I visited back then, but in the end it was DU that became my primary political home online. I now have numerous friends that I originally met here years ago. We were all die-hard Biden admirers, so you can imagine we are very happy these days.
I think a lot people may forget how difficult it was to find any liberal voices back then, so it was always refreshing when we found like-minded people.
