Democrats say it's up to GOP to stop Trump 2024

Democrats say it's up to the Republican Party to put the kibosh on Donald Trump and that they aren't going to do anything to try to stop the former president from running again in 2024.

In a speech on the House floor the eve of her ouster from House GOP leadership, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said it was up to members of both parties - not just Republicans - to stop Trump from holding elected office again.

"Our duty is clear. Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy," Cheney said. "This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans. Remaining silent, and ignoring the lie, emboldens the liar."

But Democrats say it's solely up to Republicans to prevent Trump from continuing to lead their party.

Up to the GOP? They're going to be lined up for the opportunity to plant their face between his humongous butt cheeks.

She says Trump is everyone's responsibility. Democrats say Trump is the GOP's problem. By the way, note that the only Democrats quoted in the article are a couple of "Democratic strategists" who aren't exactly household names.

What is it that Democrats can, or should do, to stop Trump from running for president anyway? He's legally allowed to run. And frankly, if he does, he will lose. Under Trump, the Republicans lost the House, the Senate, and then the Presidency after a single term. Since then we've had the insurrection, which hasn't exactly made him any more popular.

Trump is toxic as hell, and I don't think we should be afraid if he runs again, especially if Never-Trump Republicans put up a third-party spoiler candidate.

actually know how toxic trump is. Far too many people voted for him in 2020 to make me feel comfortable about that

Your analysis of the situation may be correct, but with various state legislatures making it more difficult to vote, it is far from certain

I still think the only reason Trump won in 2016 -- a victory which he only just manage to squeak out -- was simply because he was an unknown quantity. Many voted for him because he wasn't a typical politician, and they thought it might be interesting to have a change of scene. I mean he literally asked people, "What do you have to lose?" The media constantly played into the idea that he may be a loose cannon, but if he won he would "pivot" and become more presidential. Lol.

The difference between 2016 and 2020 was that he was no longer an unknown quantity -- he had a track record, and people looked at him and said, "Four more years of that? No thanks." Yes, a hell of a lot of people voted for him in 2020, but a hell of a lot more voted for Biden.

You're right about voter suppression though, it's definitely a factor, and we need to remain vigilant.
