"Muslims do not hate our freedom, but rather, they hate our policies. The overwhelming majority voice their objections to what they see as one-sided support in favor of Israel and against Palestinian rights...." - Report of the Defense Science Board Task Force on Strategic Communication Post 9/11; September 2004.
The report was requested by and delivered to then SecDef, Donald Rumsfeld.
The president then was George W. Bush.
And, without changing a word, that report's conclusions could be written again today.

(15,325 posts)HAMAS is IRAN. So what are they getting out of it?
Just asking...

(3,022 posts)but it acts like the one person who demonstrably gets the most out of this isn't Benjamin Netanyahu. If Israel wants peace thay can start by discontinuing the illegal settlements and dumping Netanyahu.

(15,325 posts)Everyone goes back to their corner & lives in peace?
What's Iran after in the end, other than stir up shit.
Honest quuestion here cuz I do not know:
Is it a matter of antisemitism with Iran?
Is that the threat?
(You may or may not answer this one.)
I honestly have a difficult time sorting thru the centuries old issues between ME nations.
Perhaps it's just a power or territorial move, or maybe it goes all the way back to very origins of the various religions.
Perhaps. Even in the US, we see subtle threats of religion in politics & we're a relatively new country compared to the Middle East.
They've done this for generations. A 1000 years.
I'd prefer we stay out of it but realize too that we are invested in the area, so you gotta deal with the kids figthing in the back seat, only this bunch has nukes to play with. 😬
Ugh.

(15,325 posts)What is Iran after by stepping into this?
Because they certainly have a reason.
I'm not laying blame on anyone, unlike some are.
Their are a lot of nasty self serving players in that region.
tonedevil
(3,022 posts)what is Iran doing to step in?
Budi
(15,325 posts)That's all I really wanted to know.

(3,022 posts)for quite some time haven't they? Are they stepping that up or is this just your generic question whenever there are hostilities in Israel/Palestinian?
Budi
(15,325 posts)I have no personal side in any of this.
As far as I see, they are ALL to blame in this nasty nest.
Palestine as well as Israrel.
Now since HAMAS os also in the fight, I ask what's in it for Iran?
Maybe its just how shit goes down in that part of the world or perhaps Iran has their own reasons.
That's why I asked.

(3,022 posts)I did think the membership was Palestinians. The US funds Israel what do we want to gain from this?
Budi
(15,325 posts)I'm guessing it goes back generations.
I see some refs lately to Israel as a "settlement colony".
Guessing some still won't recognise Israel as a legit country.
Understandable, but that's then a big part of the problem & I don't see an end to hostilities of that region. Perhaps that is why the US takes a stand in Israel's defense.
Every move for the US becomes a very fine line, & hate to see us drawn further into a war that's been simmering since the UN settled the Refugees of 1939.
Way too long for such hostility to still exist.
I have no idea how this story ends.
