Israel's unraveling

Interesting article I came across on Vox about recent events, seems rather even handed as well:

Bat Yam is an Israeli seaside suburb, nestled just south of Tel Aviv. It’s primarily known for its pretty beachfront.

On Wednesday night, Bat Yam erupted in violence. A mob of Jewish extremists surrounded a man they presumed was an Arab and pummeled him mercilessly. Kan, Israel’s public broadcaster, aired live footage of the unnamed man being beaten with a flagpole flying the Israeli flag.

“We are watching a lynching,” Kan reporter Daniel Elazar said during the broadcast.

What happened in Bat Yam is not an isolated incident. The current fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza has led to an eruption of violence in Israeli cities, with dueling Jewish and Arab mobs roaming the streets, destroying property and beating innocents.

It’s a few radicals on both sides that are responsible for the violence.

when you have one side nearly able to form a government and the other side also nearly able to form a government. Nevermind that Hamas is the government of Gaza, having won the elections there years ago, and slated to win new elections if they are ever held again.

That's what you said.

It's a reference to the Holocaust where 6 million Jews were murdered.

Your comparing that to a countries response to terrorism.

I also think that they treat the Palestinians like the Germans treated the Jews before The Final Solution. In fact, that collapsing building we saw on the news broke a lot of crystal, now didn't it? Just because the violence is not up close and personal doesn't change the facts.....

Israel will never have peace until they respect the borders and the people of their neighboring states. If the Palestinians didn't fight back they wouldn't be worth a damn. In fact this latest war will guarantee the recruitment of another generation of Palestinian fighters. It must be what Israel wants, because they do everything in their power to sustain the constant state of war, hot and cold, and have done so for as long as I can remember.

If you want to interpret my comments as anti-Semitic, then so be it. I am not anti Jewish, In fact, I don't care about religion of any flavor; I consider it all hocus-pocus. I hold Atheists, Jews, Christians and Moslems all to the same moral and ethical standards. I don't have my head in the sand and I don't believe in faith-based truths. I think that a lot of the problems in the Middle East are caused by the fusion of religion and state. It is a bad idea, no matter what state or what religion. "God" seems to be the justification of more evil than Satan. After all, who has ever claimed that Satan was on their side?

I have studied the history of the 1930s to the 1950s for a lifetime. There are no words to describe the horror and the evil of the holocaust. I have never been able to wrap my mind around how one group could treat another group of people so heartlessly, and especially how that they could do it in the name of the Christian God. Gott Mit Uns indeed. However, those dark days of history do not give Israel license to take what they want and displace the current occupants to suit their desires.

There, I have laid out how I feel about it. Paint me with whatever label that makes you happy.

We should and must support Israel.

However it must not be open ended support for everything they do. They have gone off the rails and become the very oppressors they fled.

Unfortunately it is an unsolvable problem.

Many American administrations tried to broker Israeli/ Palestinian peace. Ignoring Trump, they all acted in good faith. The blame for failure never should have been given to the moderators. The problem was neither side was ever ready to make the concessions that would have been needed, even as both blamed the other.

Way over half of the Knesset are both right wing and nationalistic and increasingly their definition of ISRAEL is not just the area inside the green line. How do you get Israel to really agree to a two state solution?

I heard roughly 21% are Arab/Palestinian. Few enough to be oppressed, too few to stop the many, too many to send to concentration camps, but enough to fight. They HAVE to get along and both sides have always known it.

(Jews were @1% of Germans back in the 1930s.)

I feel like if an American says now that they don't support Israel even though they are our ally, it is like a person from, let's say France, saying they didn't support the US during the Trump years. Yes, the US and France are allies, but I would hardly blame anyone for hating us during the Trump years! It's like they took a break from supporting us and liking us during those years. They still loved many of our citizens, but hated our "regime." That is how I feel about Israel....right now, no interest in their regime or their country under Netanyahu, though there are many good Israeli people
