(23,218 posts)HCW's and the CDC seem to be going head to head on this issue.
Only 60% of the CDC vaccinated, yet they're making decisions?

(23,218 posts)I'm on Twitter and am watching what the "other side" is saying.
Many Dems on Twitter are asking the same questions as to "why" the CDC are making decisions regarding mask wearing when only 60% of them have been vaccinated.
If you'd like another video, I will supply it.
(I did NOT post due to "his" comment but rather listening to Fauci and others speak)
so what? That doesn't change that fact that you, and they, are amplifying fascist talking points.
Have a look though the replies to the tweet that you decided was a great idea to post there.

(22,590 posts)I mean, listen to whatever you want to listen to; different strokes and all that. I just don't feel the need or see the point myself.
I also don't care who's vaxxing or not at the CDC. Any issues I have with the latest masking guidance have to do with the content of the guidance, not what RWNJs are saying about it, or the vaccine status of CDC staff. I suspect that may be true of others here as well.
OhioChick
(23,218 posts)I believe that I have a "right" to know why Fauci, Marks, and the CDC Director have all said that only 60% were vaccinated at the CDC, yet the CDC have changed their recommendations on masks while we have not reached herd immunity and still in a Pandemic.
It may not be a big deal to you but a majority of my family are in the medical field and pissed over these new guidelines. They're exhausted, burned out and tired of all of this BS.

(7,220 posts)In February 2015, Levant founded The Rebel Media (also known as Rebel News) along with Brian Lilley. He is currently its main contributor after Brian Lilley resigned, citing "lack of editorial and behavioural judgment that left unchecked will destroy it and those around it".[8] Under Levant, Rebel Media has been accused of being a platform for the far-right anti-Muslim ideology known as counter-jihad[9][10] and is widely associated with promoting hatred and dangerous right-wing propaganda posing an active threat to marginalized groups in Canada.[11][12]
Levant has become involved in several legal and other controversies on free speech issues. Levant has been successfully sued for libel on two occasions, while apologies and retractions were issued by him or on his behalf on three other occasions. In rulings for two legal cases, judges said of Levant that he has a "reckless disregard for the truth".[13][14]
Levant is currently a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and Derek Sloan.

(23,218 posts)I'm more interested in what Fauci and others are saying in regard to mask wearing and the CDC only saying that 60% have been vaccinated which is TRUE.

(58,283 posts)The CDC does not know how many of its employees are vaccinated because it does not, and cannot, keep such statistics. Vaccination status is private medical information that employers do have a right to know unless it is necessary for the job, i.e. a nurse at a covid ward, etc.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), a federal law, protects such patient health information from being disclosed without the patient's consent or knowledge.
Fauci was not speaking for the CDC, he was just saying what he personally thinks is the number. When Burr asked Fauci what percentage of emplyees at his agency were vaccinated, Fauci said he wasn't sure but that he "thinks" it's "a little over 50%" or "probably around 60%." He was guessing. Marks said he "didn't know" for his agency, but went along with Fauci's guess as a possible number for his agency. Walensky smartly did not take Burr's bait and correctly pointed out they don't keep such statistics, and that the federal government does not require that their employees disclose such information to them.

(23,218 posts)Both of my kids are physicians working with Covid patients.
They, as well as their colleagues are horrified at the CDC's new guidelines.
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)I think it is premature, because only 36% of Americans are vaccinated. If the CDC says vaccinated people don't have to wear masks in public, then the unvaccinated won't wear masks either. And we have no way of knowing if a person is vaccinated, so we have no way of enforcing the mask mandate against the 64% of Americans who are unvaccinated. Plus, with all the variants running around, it's not safe to go among the public without a mask, even if you have been vaccinated.
If you're unhappy about the new guidelines, then say so and explain why. And don't use right wing sources.
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)They simply do not know. Why? Because these employees are not required to report their vaccination status and these agencies do not keep such statistics, as Walensky accurately pointed out (it was not a "dodge" ). Walensky was correct to not speculate without any hard data.
And NOWHERE in that video does it say ANY CDC employees "refuse" to get vaccinated, let alone "half" of them. That line is completely made up by the right wing covid-denier whose tweet you are using as the source for the video you want us to watch.
OhioChick
(23,218 posts)Fauci, Marks, and the CDC Director were "asked" what percentage of their employees are vaccinated and "responded."
Once again......ignore the source and WATCH and LISTEN to the REAL video.
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)Fauci was GUESSING it was "probably around 60%" but as he said he wasn't sure. You are treating that 60% figure like your right wing source is, i.e. that is a real number based on actual data. It's not. It's a guess. The CDC does not keep such data for their employees.
I didn't ignore your fucking right wing source because it is stating a dangerous LIE (that half of the CDC is refusing the vaccine). It must be debunked (something you should have done in your OP) so that we are not helping to spread that lie.
There are other sources for this video, why don't you use them instead of this tweet that promotes a covid-denying lie?

(110,261 posts)and vaccines just became available to everybody a few weeks ago. I bet a lot of their employees didn't even qualify till this last group.

(58,283 posts)People 50-65 weren't eligible until April 1. 65 is typical retirement age. So your typical under 65 working person (i.e. CDC employee) wouldn't have become eligible until late April.

(12,744 posts)Maybe they are practicing social distancing, work from home, wear masks when they go out, and think because they are low risk they should wait until more high risk people are vaccinated. I knew several people who did that and I'm not even in the CDC.
