(10,565 posts)do absolute nothing. Lots of those folks vote against their own interests all the time. I'm not seeing any thing that changes that.

(2,868 posts)that a majority of the residents of W. Virginia are in favor of Biden's original infrastructure plan. Hell a majority are in favor of the $15/hour Federal Minimum Wage.
Manchin should be listening to his constituents, rather than the Repubs.

(40,365 posts)I can easily find national polls asking about the infrastructure plan but not one for West Virginia specifically.

(3,282 posts)Have the take a poll of support for the "Biden Infrastructure Plan" and see how it does in WV. If it were that popular Capito would be voting for it.

(7,733 posts)I think the ultimate leverage Biden has is Republicans dont want to have another popular program be passed by Democrats only. Even if the final bill is smaller, which it will most certainly be, it will still be a crowning achievement by the President and Democrats.
1) It will be all the stuff the Repubs want. Good luck keeping the House and the Senate in'22.
2) There won't be a second infrastructure bill, as Biden won't have any leverage over Manchin et al. Again, good luck keeping the House and the Senate in '22.

(7,733 posts)Im worried about 22 too, but I think we can change the normal losing midterm seats with overwhelming numbers. We have to win.

2) Not one Republican will vote for it anyway. Theyll get all they want, and then be able to blast the big-government, tax-and-spend Democrat Party for it while simultaneously taking credit for all its benefits.

(54,404 posts)trillion USD a piece separate bills.
We will be lucky if the Rethugs do not filibuster the tiny 580 billion usd bill for physical infrastructure.
I can see the human infrastructure getting (at most) 200 to 300 billion USD in total funding, if we do the same and do what the Rethugs may push for in a bill for THAT one. Hell, the Rethugs may agree to NOTHING in terms of a bi-partisan human infrastructure bill, and then if Manchin and Sinema say NO NO reconciliation for that either, it's dead as well.
We could end getting only around 500 billion usd passed out of 4 trillion, and that 500 billion is over ten years or so, 50 billion a year.
For perspective, we spend, counting both on and off budget total items, including black budget, around 1.5 trillion usd a year for the war/security/surveillance state, 30 times more.
Also, I predict that there is going to be an all-out brawl between the progs in the House and in the Senate and the 'Manchin/Sinema + multiple other centrists' wing IF we end up with only 500 to 800 billion out of 4 trillion usd at the end of the day. That of course, will spill over to the board, and thus will end up in the usual shitshow, with howls for Sanders, AOC, et al's heads on platters, even though it all really may simply down to Manchin and Sinema (and perhaps a few others) who are the ones doing the true damage via massive blocking.
Also just wait until we end up getting none (or very little) of the voter rights bills passed, due to Manchin and Sinema (and maybe Feinstein) refusing to do any actual effective mods to the filibuster or simply outright oppose (like Manchin currently does with HR 1) the bills altogether.
Oh, fun times ahead.
