I purposely focused on how I began using my hands after being vaccinated Terrible how I lapsed back into bad habits.
I just enjoy being free from those nasty annual infections I am willing to be ridiculed in and outside my home. Hand washing inside but outside I will go back to using my gloves.

(102,119 posts)I have had a tiny bottle attached to my coat, vest, or in my pocket throughout and will continue to do so, though I try to wash with less irritating soap and water as much as possible.
People want to forget--even some Public Health experts--that we have one hell of a lot of enteric viruses and bacteria that normally circulate in explosive outbreaks. Even if COVID-19 has been found not to persist in infectious form long on surfaces, that is absolutely NOT the case for seasonal enteric viruses, the worst (in terms of surface survival and infectivity) being NOROVIRUS.
Hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene matter.

(9,664 posts)I will continue to mask up. We use 70% alcohol as a hand spray, I know the strength of that, hand sanitizers could be questionable.

(12,287 posts)The gloves are essentially dirt....they are not sterile gloves if they come in a bag or box...

(254 posts)to properly use those gloves anyway. (Not saying the OP doesnt, just speaking in general.) So theyre likely doing no good or worse providing a false sense of security.

(914 posts)I do think we will see a very small contingent make masks permanent. Not as widespread as happens in Japan but noticeable. While its been preached by the CDC and other organizations for decades there are small things we can do to protect ourselves from catching things. Washing hands is a huge one. Masks clearly help as well but on a smaller level for most contagion.

(2,533 posts)The kind with the wrinkled rubber hand surfaces. I can browse & pick up items without giving or receiving.
But the best part is I have a superpower! I can open the flimsy produce bags with ease.
Seriously why not-they work very well.

(30,613 posts)But I'm only half-vaxed; 2nd jab is on the 28th.
Even after that one is fully-cooked, I'll continue these practices for the forseeable future. My wife is afraid of the vaccines; she has had a lifetime of botched medical care and horrible outcomes; she has multiple mysterious ailments. So I have to protect her from all the antivaxxers and maskholes out there.

(10,415 posts)Outdoors, it's not crowded around here. I was on a trip last week to Asheville NC, and did wear a mask while walking around downtown. It wasn't crowded like NYC, but nearly everyone else had one on also. Still planning to sit outside if I go to a restaurant. I like that better anyway when the weather is nice.
So far, here at home, people are still mostly wearing masks indoors. I hope that keeps up through most of the summer. If there is no big increase in disease after Memorial Day events, then it might be time to relax a little.
