When common folks see politicians and people of high status escape punishment for their crimes, they lose faith in the system.
Justice is the glue that holds our democracy together.
Marjorie Taylor Greene says that the insurrectionists that attacked our Capitol are being abused by the system. They are nothing more than patriotic Americans, according to Greene and others in her camp.
This is dangerous ground on which we tread. These are the criminals that deserve special attention. They should not escape justice. They should be made examples of our justice system.
The damage that will be done if there is no justice is not known? But, it cannot be good.

We are at a crossroad. Do rational people win the day? Its no certainty. I am encouraged by some sane republicans in Arizona saying enough is enough....finally.
You know how crazy they are by the large number of older republican politicians and pundits who have no use for them.....like Bill Kristol for example.

(11,572 posts)...the damage to the Republic could be very similar to the Civil War. And that is the kind of rhetoric we see from vile and deranged harridan, MTG. The phrase "Patriotic Americans" being applied to the insurrectionists? How is this significantly different to "War of Northern Aggression" or "The Confederacy was fighting for states' rights?"
I see little, if any, difference, especially in the detachment from reality.
