Glad he's running for Senate. Go Tim!

(82,849 posts)I've been told several times over the last couple of days that this is exactly the wrong approach, and we need to trust the Democratic leadership to know what they're doing and not shame or stampede the Republicans into showing some basic humanity.
We should soon have folks showing up to explain why Rep. Ryan is so very wrong in his approach.

(20,870 posts)Ryan is my congressman, and he's so hated by "his friends on the other side of the aisle", that they decided it is our district that has to go when Ohio loses a district. he's running to replace Senator Rob Portman.
He used to intern for his mentor Jim Trafficant (beam me up Scotty) who was known for his fiery two minute speeches on the House floor before he went to prison for theft in office.
Tim learned the ropes pretty well and learned not to steal. Apparently.

(9,067 posts)I hoped for 60-70 Republicans to support the bill, but I'll take 35, and thank those who did support it. And a special thanks to Tim Ryan for calling out those Republicans who voted against it.
Unfortunately, true patriotism is a scarce commodity on the Republican side of the aisle.
As is honor, integrity, and respect for the police who put their lives on the line for them.
Partisanship seems to be the only thing they have in great abundance.
What a self-serving bunch of jerks!

(2,640 posts)After Rep. Ryan spoke, though, how dare "the gentleman from New York" call for an "end to the theatrics and an end to talking about things that are not relevant"!!! No, no, that's what Republicans like Jim Jordan and Tim Cruz do, not Democrats! It's not theatrics when it's the truth and when it's righteous anger, and, oh, by the way, Benghazi is very, VERY relevant, in fact, a spot-on example of Republicans' hypocritical behavior that was extremely pertinent to the matter at hand.

(8,178 posts)a 180 degree turn since becoming "acquainted" with him back in 2018 when he wanted to be speaker. Didn't win me as a fan.
However long before "now", I started seeing him differently, I was particularly struck with his position on impeachment long long before Nancy Pelosi finally decided it would be "on the table".
Tim Ryan was amazing in plain spoken, truth to the core, and sounding damn progressive for someone who claimed to identify as a moderate then. Today I'm more than a huge fan and I hope he can win the Senate seat. And i hope someone is waiting in the wings for his seat that is a strong candidate
I'm not a constituent, I live in California, but I can still root for him!

(114,614 posts)They should have been calling those propaganda spewers, liars, thugs, bullies, and nitwits out on their rancid hypocrisy all along, but especially now that they're still trying to blame the whole thing on the left as a "false flag" to discredit their Dear Leader.
They really tipped their hand on that one. They would be rabidly in favor of going after the rioters if they thought there was a shred of proof for that particular fantasy. This point needs to be hammered home by every journalist out there who isn't being paid by either Murdoch or Putin.
Sp WTG, Tim Ryan. Now start having your staff call every news and talk show out there to book you so the word is spread outside the Capitol. You know the wrong side has already been doing this and it's time to catch up.

(6,269 posts)it won't matter, trump has that other 90 % of repigs by the balls and ovaries and just keeps squeezing tighter. Fox News must be marginalized, somehow. They spread the big lie of their rich RW masters who are trying so hard to create a fascist, racist white supremacist-led oligarchy. The truth is a known quantity with these racist groups of people, they just won't accept it to their ultimate detriment I feel.
Civil War 1.0 1860-1865, with 1.5 million casualties proved that fact. Seems this latest insurrection by traitors to the Consitution has started with 5 killed and 142 injured 1/6/2021.
