Sanders to Block Destructive Republican Resolution on Israel-Palestine, Offer Alternative
May 19, 2021
WASHINGTON, May 19 Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday will take to the floor of the U.S. Senate to block a destructive resolution on the conflict in Israel and Palestine, and offer an alternative in its place.
Following the failure of the Republican motion, Sanders will ask for unanimous consent that the Senate adopt the following resolution:
Whereas every Palestinian life matters; and
Whereas every Israeli life matters:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Senate
(1) urges an immediate cease-fire to prevent
(A) any further loss of life; and
(B) further escalation of conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories; and
(2) supports diplomatic efforts
(A) to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict;
(B) to uphold international law; and
(C) to protect the human rights of Israelis and Palestinians.

I wonder if they went to the same synagogue?

(67,782 posts)....he was raised as a non-practicing Jew (although he did receive his Bar Mitzvah)
Jerrold Nadler is also from that same general neighborhood, but he attended a special pre-public high school in Manhattan, an "accelerated academic" school.
He and I attended at the same time - although I recognize the name, I don't remember much about him. He was one year ahead of me.

Impressive!
I didn't know that about Bernie, that he was raised non-practicing.

(67,782 posts)....unremarkable at the time since it was long before he became famous - only one member of the student body.
A couple of other students at that time were Eric Holder (sophomore when I was a senior) and David Axelrod, a few years after that.
Of course, all of them wound up where they did and I'm left pounding a keyboard in retirement!!!

We are not all meant to be famous.

And why do you always post the name of the person you're responding to, Autumn?

(13,058 posts)But I am not optimistic. If Bernie can block the competing Republican resolution then it will only take one Republican senator to do the same to Bernie's resolution.

(5,557 posts)Israel's missile and drone defense has effectively neutralized the threat of missile attacks. Yes, occasionally one gets through, but it's not a major threat. This is the most missiles that they've ever launched in such a short period.
Israel on the other hand is systematically wreaking Hamas' infrastructure and anything else that suits their fancy.
Israel has largely neutralized the various methods of asymmetric warfare.
