Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMitch McConnell has lost the legitimacy to lead.
He has become a walking contradiction.
He goes to the floor of the Senate and declares that Donald Trump was responsible for the attack upon our Capitol. He then votes against impeachment. He refuses to hold his Leader accountable.
There is a vote to create a bi-partisan Commission, as agreed to by both Parties, and he declares that he is against it? He understands that our Capitol was attacked and who was responsible but he refuses to do anything about it.
He says the law and the Congress have the authority to handle it. We do not need any Commission to tell us what we already know. Who is he protecting? Himself?
Perhaps the Democrats will have no choice but to handle the investigations in Congress and let the Department of Justice handle the legal matters? Is that what Mitch McConnell is recommending?
Nobody knows what he stands for anymore. He has lost the ability to lead his Party during a dangerous and critical time for our nation.

(18,579 posts)Would be a blessing in disguise because if it fails she is free to set up a commission just like Republicans did on Benghazi. Heavily weighted to Republicans she can set up one weighted to Democrats!

(115,482 posts)...that the reason so many Repub House members voted for the Commission was to protect their chances of winning back the House.
They were assured that no matter how they voted, it would not pass the Senate. A naked political maneuver.

One doesnt have a 23% Approval rating and win an election..the same for the 2014 election..I believe there were Russian vote counters in that one.

(32,543 posts)Don't just take the vote. Make them stand on the floor of the Senate and explain why we shouldn't investigate an attack on our democracy.
Schumer needs to do it, Speaker Pelosi would.
