The GQP are being incredibly stupid by blocking a bipartisan commission in which they would have some power and control, including the ability to approve or disapprove subpoenas 50-50 with the Democrats. Instead, they continue to kiss TFG's ass, play to the base and shoot themselves in the foot. Now the Dems will go ahead and hold their own hearings, and they will have control over witnesses and information to be made public and the GQPers will be stuck with whatever comes out.

Nice job, Mitch.

they can claim it's a partisan witch hunt, and completely dismiss any investigation's findings. Fat Nixon gets to keep grifting, Congressional republicans get to placate Fat Nixon, and the cult will never know there could have been a bipartisan investigation. More fuel to enrage them, lather, rinse, repeat.

The idea of a 50 50 commission, with the GQOP getting to name their own commissioners, was fraught with the possibility of abuse.

We should hold at least as many hearings as the KGOP held about Benghazi. And leading GOP co-conspirators should be required to testify under oath. Let's see how many are able to hold up under eleven or twelve hours of questioning, as did our former Secretary of State and winner of the popular vote in 2016.

Then the Orange Blob can claim it's a " partisan witch hunt" and the cult has something else to enrage them. More fund raising, more rallies, more Orange Blob.

They're so transparent it's laughable, but to the Orange Blob and his cult, it's a reason to get up in the morning.

But the Democrats inoculated themselves perfectly.

I would still prefer an independent commission - and they probably would, too. But if that's not going to happen, the committee process is the next best thing and putting into place after so obviously and earnestly trying to do a bipartisan commission will make this much easier.

remains steadfast. I’m not so sure that McCarthy's and McConnell’s reneging on agreed upon terms for the commission -- plus the moronic statements that have been made publicly by Republican representatives, lying so obviously that only another idiot child could believe them -- won’t cause a major shrinkage in the numbers of Fat-45’s army of morons.

So, actually, a fully partisan committee with all the cards on the table may not be such a bad thing. It will take a relentless Democratic reminder to the public that Republicans agreed to collaborate and then reneged after the Democrats agreed to their requirements.

It's kind of obvious to me that the Republicans are doing everything in their power to shield the person most responsible of 1.6 while totally ignoring the folks who attacked the Capital at Trump's request. Hell, a lot of Republicans refuse to even recognize the folks being prosecuted for the attack as Trump supporters. Why would you support a person or Party that throws you under the bus at the first opportunity they get?!?

because the know that even with half control over the commission the findings are going to be brutal and damning. So, the only play is to go partisan and try to claim it was a "witch hunt." I don't know if that's a good idea or not because they were offered half control, so the public might not buy the partisan line. Secondly, the Benghazi stuff was all partisan, but it certainly took a toll on Clinton regardless.
