JERUSALEM (AP) Israel is at war with Hamas, Jewish-Arab mob violence has erupted inside Israel, and the West Bank is experiencing its deadliest unrest in years. Yet this may all bolster Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Just over a week ago, the longtime Israeli leaders political career seemed all but over. He had failed to form a coalition government following an indecisive parliamentary election, and his political rivals were on the cusp of pushing him out of office.
Now, as Israel and Gazas Hamas rulers wage their fourth war in just over a decade, Netanyahus fortunes have changed dramatically. His rivals prospects have crumbled, Netanyahu is back in his comfortable role as Mr. Security, and the country could soon be headed for yet another election campaign that would guarantee him at least several more months in office.
The stunning turn of events has raised questions about whether Netanyahus desperation to survive may have pushed the country into its current predicament. While opponents have stopped short of accusing him of hatching just such a conspiracy, they say the fact that these questions are being asked is disturbing enough.

(2,868 posts)is claiming he intentionally kicked-off the conflict to derail the formation of an alternative government, simply to hold onto power. Who knows which way it will go. The bigger deal right now is he's dragging things out to get past the deadline for the formation of an alternative government.
HE'S ONE SICK PUPPY.

(302 posts)Yes, the answer is yes. Trump was trying to get there but he was waiting for someone to do it and they failed and now he mad at the world. Netanyahu might fail as well. Let hope

While it was predictable that Hamas would fall into this trap, if they would have waited until the Israeli government had been formed, where there was a real chance that Netanyahu would have been out, it would have been much better.
There was a definite parallel when bush invaded Iraq, and sure setup the stage for the 2004 election

(8,340 posts)I'm pretty sure they can stop the violence tomorrow if they form a coalition immediately with he center left and right parties. Bennett has never been trustworthy, but if the Arab parties can find common ground and unite around a government, Netanyahu can be evicted from his position and put on trial for his civil crimes and war crimes. Sooner than later..
