(34,195 posts)Once Biden bestowed the medal on Puckett, he asked his extended family to come up for photos and invited Moon to jump in for a shot as well, with both men kneeling down on either side of Puckett's wheelchair.

(11,767 posts)1. His physical fitness at his age is pretty good. He feels confident in his physical abilities to put himself in that position knowing that he can get up without effort and assistance.
2. He is a humble man. While the common idea is that any person with the audacity to run for President is somewhat full of themselves is a fairly valid one, Biden shows us again and again that he is really aware of honor, service, and humility. He is THE PRESIDENT, the Commander in Chief, and very often, the most important person in the room. However, he very often, and genuinely puts himself in an equal if not deferential position to others. This man was awarded the Medal of Honor for extraordinary service to his country and Joe was aware that the man deserved to be at the center of the picture and because of the man's age would be seated. Joe did not want to stand next to him and block out family of force one of them to take a knee.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this, but I think my assessment is pretty accurate.

(77,245 posts)...he nimbly sidesteps the thing instead of tripping over it.
In later years, I admired the attention to detail where the reshot the opening nearly identically, except "Rob" skips around it instead of tumbling over it.
Obviously, my awareness of production was not sufficiently tuned when I was 7. But, everyone noticed him not tripping over it when it first happened!
I was reminded of that bit by the parody at the beginning of WandaVision.

(34,195 posts)I met Dick Van Dyke once back around 1979 when he came into the lobby of the Town and Country Hotel in San Diego.
I, along with about six others, was working the front desk
It was late evening, around 9 PM, and he was so drunk he actually fell onto the floor. He got up OK.
At the time news about him was that he was 'on the wagon' and had quit drinking.
FakeNoose
(42,368 posts)... but he gave it up years ago. I don't think he would have lived into his 90's if he were still drinking like that. I guess the term for him is recovered alcoholic.
It's hard to believe that Dick Van Dyke has outlived most of his contemporaries. Carl Reiner died last year, Mary Tyler Moore passed a few years ago. I believe Mel Brooks wrote for the DVD show (?) and he's still kickin' around.

(28,577 posts)Even if he still drinking, so what? He has brought so much happiness and joy and common sense good humor to the world that he can do anything he wants as far as Im concerned. If he made it this far and hes pickled and he seems to be fully sentient and functioning and never hurt anyone to our knowledge in the public sphere, then thats all that really matters.
He is a gifted talented man with Foibles just like the rest of us.
