In a country where 74 million people voted for Trump, how to you find a jury to convict him?

I realize that the NYS case is in good hands with Tish James, but jury selection is going to be a nightmare if that case winds up at trial. You obviously can't screen based on political party or recent votes, but if by chance you get a jury of all Clinton/Biden voters you know the defense will jump all over it. Hopefully there are at least 12 people in that jury pool who are relatively disinterested in politics and willing to only follow the evidence.

I know that this is crazy premature, but of all the potential roadblocks to Trump serving a prison sentence, this seems like one of the biggest. I also suspect that his hold over his base makes it unlikely that he'll ever accept a plea bargain.

jury selection is going to be an incredible task. It's really frightening how many Americans fall/fell for a con artist ... and many still don't get what went on and still is ...

That's the thing I'm most concerned about, too. All it takes is one.

Tend to agree with OP that any crime that is remotely political would end in a hung jury. Too many trumpsters would feel it their duty to hold out for their boy.

There could be jury nullification.

Even if convicted or held liable, Trump will surely appeal.

This won't be over for a while.

He'll be railing about the hatred the NY AG has for him, and he won't be 100% wrong in that. Letitia James has been outspoken that she's going to find where the Trump's committed crimes. It's going to at least give the appearance that she's prosecuting a political prosecution against Trump. Literally the first question we're going to hear at a press conference is going to be "Are you prosecuting Trump because you hate him?"

We'll hear about how it's a kangaroo court and we're Venezuela or Russia who jails our political opposition. Trump will talk about a fear of being poisoned like opposition leaders in other countries.

If they're talking about the Trump Org CFO Weisselberg, and some scheme that the Trump's did to over-value or under-value something, that's a HUGE, complicated case. If they can't describe what Trump himself did wrong in 5 words or less, it's even more complicated with public perception. If the only 'person' that got hurt in these schemes was Deutsch Bank, some other financial institution or some mobster somewhere that was over-charged for a condo, that's even worse. The case will have to be super clear cut to get a PR victory, and I just don't think that can happen.

That doesn't even get into the fact that hundreds of people in the Trump organization that insulate Trump from the financial minutiae of the company. The Trump Org has dozens of tax and accounting lawyers on staff. There's laws in other countries that have to be identified, examined and investigated. James recently said she had attached 2 whole lawyers form the state to help Cy Vance. Mueller had dozens of lawyers and a blank check, and his investigation took 3 years, and ultimately they whiffed. At the very least, James and Vance are not staffing correctly to make a huge case like this against the Trump Org.

And that doesn't even get into the whole 74 million republicans and problems with convicting him in a jury. Prosecutors are not going to be allowed to ask who the jurors voted for. I suspect he won't be tried in NYC. It'll be in bumfuck NY somewhere, and 80%+ of the jurors will be Trump supporters.

spend a fortune in legal fees for the rest of his life with all the hassle that entails is punishment. And even though he'll likely stall payment, liens against his estate will screw up the family as well. That's not enough for sure, but at least it's something!

It can happen but then it'd be a hung jury, especially if it's based on paper evidence and an obvious crime has been committed.

Just ask every potential jury member "Who won the November 3rd election?"
If they say "Trump," they're gone.

There will be other ways to weed out the crazies and ChumpHumpers, I'm not worried.
