Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI can think of only one motive ...
... for Republicans to agree that the events of January 6th should not be fully investigated - and that motive is to cover up GOP complicity in the events that unfolded.
Change my mind. Offer some explanation - other than the bleedin' obvious - as to why the PTB in the GOP are determined to undermine any efforts to 'get to the bottom' of every who-what-where-why-and-how that underlies this case.
One can only wonder why our friends on the other side of the aisle are SO reluctant to investigate an unprecedented attack on our Capitol, and SO anxious to push the let's just move on because nothing really happened on January 6th other than a regular crowd of tourists meme.
If there is a Republican out there who has come up with a plausible reason for why his/her party is NOT fully on-board with every investigation into 1/6, I've yet to hear him/her speak up.
Sometimes the presumption of guilt is based merely on conjecture, assumptions, political bias, CYA tactics, and party-centric spin.
And sometimes guilt is obvious.

(43,364 posts)This was an insurrection of thuggery aimed directly at the institutions of power in a classic coup attempt that would make Bolsheviks proud of the tactics used: storming the Winter Palace, lies and proclamations, reassuring the opposition with lies while working to eject them from power. Make no mistake, an insurrection's goal is grabbing power for themselves that they have toppled so they can install themselves as the new elite rulers. And yes, communism was ruled by elites just like every other society.

(12,552 posts)the identity of the cult members who gave tours of the Capitol to Trump's terrorist jihad that assaulted democracy at Trump's (really Putin's) direction. Democrats must act quickly or risk losing The House next year. Joe Manchin should not be a road block to progress and justice. Let's hope Joe will see the light and not allow democracy, albeit twisted by the Electoral College, gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the filibuster, to cave in to Putin's wet dream.

They have hitched their party's wagon to Criminal 45, and a thorough uncovering of the contents could knock the wheels off that cart.

(86,843 posts)Is the reliance on what you can make others believe rather than reliance on factual truth. You see it in this case, the reason for the big lie, is to convince enough people to believe an untruth which for them then becomes truth, sans facts. So one thing that should accompany this process is the understanding that this is what our system has called for because it has been defined by those who rely on belief. We need to redefine how we go forward and that will require an unwavering reliance on factual truth, nothing else will succeed.

(9,771 posts)is a concept I can accept only on a very limited basis. Opinions should be limited to things like what's the best flavor ice cream or best-looking car. "Was the election stolen," is a question that should not be asked as if there is still room for doubt.
However, we also have to remember that people are swayed by stories. Most people base their beliefs on fiction, far more than fact. Propaganda is a bunch of stories presented to the masses in a way that most do not judge them logically. Republicans know this and shamelessly exploit it.
Democrats and their supporters with the talent and financial support to do so need to inundate this public with powerful, moving stories, based on facts, that convince people that what the Republicans have been doing is wrong and downright Anti-American.
They need to be made to feel for people who are truly being oppressed, not the damn snowflake Rs who feel they're being persecuted because someone occasionally says, "Happy Holidays" to them.
They need to be shown that it is the opposite of patriotic to support a belligerently ignorant dictator-wanna-be who could not pass a basic citizenship test if his life depended on it.
They need to be convinced that what happened on Jan 6 was a huge and serious crime, an insurrection against the United States of American incited by DJT & other Rs.
And, of course, GOTV. But that becomes much easier when people really feel they're fighting for something that matters deeply. And saving our democracy from ruin by the Rs needs to be that something.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/100215451497The Party of BENGHAZI doesn't want us to investigate the insurrection? Is this real life?
Why would the republicans not want an investigation?
Who was in the Jan 06 insurrection/riot smearing poop on the walls of Congress, attacking police, seeking Mike Pence for execution, and vandalizing the Capitol Bldg?
The ONLY proof you need that Antifa had nothing to do with January 6th is the Republicans' refusal to form a commission to investigate it.

(9,788 posts)Republicans know that when the threads of this insurrection are pulled apart not only treason will be unraveled but deeper hidden crimes will surface. These revelations may have the possibility of destroying the party.
One reason is hardly ever to blame in any situation, are they guilty, of course, but it may have not much to do with the actual events of that day. Uncovering peoples motivation for covering up one crime may lead to another crime not quite connected with the one being investigated.
Could even be a case of teenage... you tell on me, Ill tell on you worse. There is so much corruption on that side of the aisle theyre running scared.

(22,176 posts)events that followed?
I would want such an event to not ever happen again so I would want answers and beefing up of the security too, of the place, let alone splitting off the policing responsibilities away from the Exec. branch too, since trump ignored all calls for help, restraint, etc. AND the military was reluctant to participate too in the events. Beef up Washington DC policing. Have all fifty states and territories send perhaps 5-10 officers to participate in a joint policing effort in Washington D.C.
The only logical reason why repugs don't want to participate is their NO NO NO mentality (at the behest of djt), or they know that they are guilty (in any event, everybody's seen the numerous video clips, etc. all pointing to a trump rally that many reps were part of, who then said go to the Capital at the end of the rally while djt was standing in front of the WH. djt was the instigator of this whole event.
