Are you under the impression that the sudden onslaught of assholes assaulting airline stewards over mask mandates are apolitical? Biden supporters? Bernie folk? What?

If you're going to argue -- at least argue intelligently.

(15,463 posts)that 90% of this is anti-masking. Does that accord better with your observations?
(I do think there are a certain portion of these 'incidents' that are just plain mental breakdowns - travel is stressful stuff, and some people are just not well equipped. But we've also become accustomed, and too accepting?, of plain old boorish, entitled and bad behavior. And, in either case, flight crew should not have to put up with your sh*t!)

(15,463 posts)I also believe that there are probably a certain number of Q-Anon adherents -- that are not Trump voters. But I also believe that the overlap between those populations is reasonably significant. You would agree?

And then on a permanent no-fly list.

At times I felt like a cow among bulls trying to get a preferred seat, but I didn't mind sitting next to anyone:
A young marine who sat with a straight back almost not touching the seat back, staring straight ahead;
Families with crying babies - really, I was ok, because I knew it could someday be me;
A really fond memory of handing out drink coupons to people around me, but only if they were sober.
My flights were almost never very long, usually about 1.5 hours.

It's a misdemeanor offense. It is a felony. Prison time.

(13,717 posts)An assault on an airline crew member should result in:
1. Immediate landing at the closest airport, and the passenger removed and handed over to law authorities.
2. Immediate placement on the "no fly" list, resulting in that passenger's inability to fly anywhere at any time.
3. Public disclosure of who caused the flight interruption in a press release by the airline
4. Civil penalties as well as criminal should be filed against the perpetrator such that he/she must pay all rescheduling & other fees associated with the extra landing, takeoff and connection reschedules imposed by his/her terrorist behavior.

I agree with other posters that this passenger should be prosecuted, hopefully imprisoned, and certainly placed on the permanent no-fly list.
