Police respond to George Floyd square on reports of shots fired
Bystanders at the Minneapolis intersection where George Floyd died ducked for cover Tuesday as the sound of gunshots rang out nearby, taking shelter briefly.
John Elder, a spokesman for the city of Minneapolis, said officers responded to the 3800 block of Elliot Avenue on a report of the sound of shots fired. Officers learned a vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
The spokesman said that a short time afterward, a person arrived at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with a gunshot wound. That person was transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of the injury, which is not considered to be life-threatening.
At the time of the incident, an Associated Press journalist shooting video at the intersection of 38th and Chicago reported hearing as many as 30 gunshots about a block from the intersection, and said a storefront window appears to have been broken by a gunshot.
