Why not just close it down ?

Retail , agricultural workers , fast food , banks ( many bank tellers have to apply for food stamps) Armored car drivers

hotel , restaurant , many casino workers , all these jobs pay minimum or just slightly above , ........who else?

You know who would still show up to work , state and federal employees that are paid by tax dollars and have a good retirement and health care.

Good luck Washington and the corporations running the country with that.

Yes it's a radical idea but in my old age I'm becoming more and more radical.
We have become a nation of sheep to the corporations and a government run by them

Just to exercise our muscles a little bit and show we have the power.

Unfortunately I think the institutional unions are forbidden by law from formally participating in political strikes or general strikes by the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947.

It would take some new organizing. I like the model we've seen lately with organizations like Warehouse Workers United, Justice for Janitors, Jobs with Justice, and other groups like that. Also there were some calls for general strike and port shutdowns in the Occupy Wall St. actions last fall and spring. We may wish those actions had been bigger but it was a pretty interesting rehearsal for bigger future actions.
