EL PASO, Texas (WSVN) A viral video showing a woman who climbed into a monkey exhibit at a Texas zoo has led to the alleged woman getting fired from her job.
Video of the incident posted to Instagram shows the woman under a waterfall feeding two spider monkeys at the El Paso Zoo.
These are primates were talking about, they could do some substantial damage to you, Mason Kleist, a zookeeper at the facility told KVIA. They may be small monkeys, but they can take you to the ground if they wanted to.

Texas Woman Feeding Hot Cheetos to Spider Monkey Inside El Paso Zoo Enclosure Fired From Job at Law Firm

She risked spreading COVID-19 to the monkeys, Libby and Sunday, a zookeeper said, not to mention personal injury.
The Texas woman seen in a video feeding hot Cheetos to spider monkeys while inside the monkey exhibit at the El Paso Zoo has been fired from her job. The law firm she had previously been employed by called her illegal entry into the enclosure irresponsible and reckless, and sent their thoughts out to the spider monkeys, Libby and Sunday, for the traumatic experience.
The firm has always been a strong supporter of animals and animal advocacy, Lovett Law Firm, which specializes in personal injury, said in a statement on social media. We absolutely do not condone this irresponsible and reckless behavior.
We support the El Paso Zoo and our thoughts go out to the spider monkeys, Libby and Sunday, and hope that they will recover from this very traumatic experience, the statement continued.

(38,005 posts)A fed monkey is a dead monkey. If you don't work with those poor little guys - don't feed them.
To give an animal something like that is cruel. And they are right - she could have given them covid.
Animals are innocent.

(114,552 posts)Cheetos are certainly not on their regular menu.
I want to know how the hell that ignorant dimwit got into the enclosure and what the zoo is going to do about it.

(33,643 posts)(from their perspective) I'm pretty sure it was not 'very traumatic' for them
You guys ever seen the 'Cities' episode of Planet Earth 2?
This is incredibly irresponsible, and I don't blame them for firing the woman, otoh.

(33,643 posts)So you think her employers said it was traumatic for them cause they were spicy cheetos, and wouldn't have said this if they were regular cheetos?
Is that the thesis in play here?
And I'll ask again ... you ever seen the 'Cities' episode of Planet Earth 2? (nt)

In PE2 they show monkeys in India descending en masse into the open air markets in the streets and trying to steal everything that's not nailed down.
Bags of chips seem to be particularly popular
I doubt they can read the labels

Fortunately sometimes cooling your heels for a month or two, sleeping on a 1" thick 'mattress' and eating jail food can do wonders.

(4,923 posts)What she did was not only dangerous and stupidly foolish but totally unhealthy and dangerous for the primates.
Processed human food which is not only bad for us as it is is NOT GOOD for the monkeys.
We had to deal with fucks like this ALL the time. Most of the sick monkeys were removed from display because of exactly what this idiot just did.
I had people removed from the zoo for doing stupid shit like this.
Losing her job might be just the beginning if she gets these animals sick.
There is a logical reason why zoos post simple signs that read
"DO NOT FEED THE FUCKING ANIMALS", ok but the fucking part is not there, but it should be.
If I had a dollar for every time we said "Please, do not feed the animals" followed by a response of "but it is only...."
Agghhhhhhh!

(33,643 posts)I just don't think the monkeys were 'extremely traumatized' by the experience.
That's all.
Throw the friggin' book at this idiot, I'm all for it!
The monkeys being happy to get some snacks is pretty much immaterial, as you point out.
mikeysnot
(4,923 posts)that they are mentally traumatized, when it is more physical.
Monkeys are brats and sometimes do not do things in their best interests, kinda like MAGAts.
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)When it's physical, one tends to use slightly different verbiage, usually something like 'blunt force trauma' or the like.
And a bit of burning on the lips for 60 seconds or whatnot is not extreme physical trauma either.
I was only pointing out that I think asserting that the monkeys were very traumatized is a bit over the top.
Not saying we shouldn't throw the book at her anyway, but it's for other reasons.

(33,643 posts)They aren't going to be 'extremely traumatized' by a Hot Cheeto. I've had them, they really aren't that hot. We're not talking 4-Star 'Thai Hot' Red Curry here.
They got like 1 Cheeto each.
I agree it wasn't cool, I just doubt it was a highly traumatic experience for the monkeys.
A fact for which I'm quite thankful. I love me some monkeys and apes

(37,113 posts)Workers said by entering the enclosure, the woman not only put herself in danger, but she endangered the monkeys by feeding them since they have a specialized diet and anything outside of their normal food may cause stomach issues.
Workers also said the woman could have given the creatures COVID-19 as well.

Everything about what she did is terrible, but I really don't think the monkeys were traumatized. That part is a bit overblown.

(37,113 posts)Zoo officials told the El Paso Times that they cannot let the woman's dangerous stunt go unpunished and they plan on pressing charges against her.
"This young lady decided to hop a fence, climb through some bushes, drop down into a four-feet deep moat, walk across the moat and then try to feed the spider monkeys," director Joe Montisano said. "It was stupid."
He said the woman is lucky the situation ended the way it did.
"These are primates. They are strong; they have canine teeth. They can scratch. We don't interact with them on the daily," Montisano told the newspaper. "And we don't interact with them without a barrier in between us."
Montisano said that because of the woman's actions, the zoo might have to get a higher fence around the spider monkey enclosure, which will make it harder for guests to see them.

(18,315 posts)all because this dumbass didn't follow the rules and guidelines. Now it will much hardwire to view the primates.
Perhaps the zoo could create a barrier that isn't obstructed.
