(25,735 posts)Wouldn't there be a very limited number of people who would be able to see, copy, and spread these videos? Would these people not be putting themselves at perilous legal risk?
I know there are things going on we don't know, but this strikes me as a deliberate disinformation campaign.

(17,911 posts)I just saw the other day that the military are releasing video of UAPs and talking about how odd they are and how unlike other craft on Earth they are. Looks like this is going to be a major item in the news, maybe THE major item.

(82,310 posts)Retired and ex-military personnel have come forward and talked about all of it.
But they keep getting labeled as nut jobs and conspiracy theorists.
Active duty military cannot speak out, what they are seeing is classified.
The retired military have to speak for them.
( I am a military brat, USAF. My father was a combat veteran of three wars.
There has been way too much buzz for decades to be ignored.)

(6,567 posts)There has been much "buzz" about many unfounded beliefs and, some for centuries i.e. a multitude of superstitions, ghosts, demons, leprechauns, the tooth fairy, flat earth, chiropractic subluxations, Republican empathy. Are you saying they should not be ignored as well?
Irish_Dem
(82,310 posts)None of them that I ever knew believed in ghosts, the tooth fairy or leprechauns. (And my father was 100% Irish American.)
They know full well that the earth is not flat, and they have empathy. They risk their lives all the time for a country and people they love. They have more courage in their little fingers than most of the population. They are not stupid, not lazy, not crazy. My father and his cohorts flew combat in three wars, they are far from silly or reckless.
They know exactly the state of the art and science in terms of aircraft capability. And they know when they see something flying in front of them which exceeds those parameters

(6,567 posts)Some military pilots may have those commendable characteristics but not all by any stretch.
I suppose one might draw an analogy with medical doctors for example- some (most) are very good at what they do, some are outright quacks.
BTW, you don't have to be stupid, lazy or crazy to believe in aliens flying about in UFOs (or leprechauns), just a little gullible and with a lack of critical thinking skills.

(6,070 posts)The elites know we are about to reorganize in the near total majorities favor so they want to stage their clampdown as a fight against aliens. Space is vast, the energy required to traverse it is immense and little to gain from going so far to come here.
intheflow
(30,249 posts)if they existed, it's human hubris to assume they have "little to gain" from traveling from far away to here. I mean, whoever is behind these events obviously has an energy source that we can't identify which appears to move much more quickly than any energy source we know. Maybe they live closer than we think aliens might live, in a parallel dimension or behind a shield on one of Jupiter's moons. Maybe they're refugees and can live in Earth's atmosphere. All these are far-fetched "maybes", but at least I'm not making assumptions based on my own limited world view (pun intended).

(415 posts)If it is some kind of antigravity drive the distance is of small consequence.
And, let's be honest here, neither you, or I, or anyone on this planet can even begin to fathom the intentions, or motivation for a completely alien species.
The data is real. What is the genesis is the question.

BUT...
Same old, same old.
Fuzzy blobs of light, or out-of-focus objects, most likely aircraft.
There are three main forms of UFO adherents:
1. Those who are certifiably nuts.
"The voices in my head tell me those are aliens."
2. The zealots.
Logic, science and simple common sense gets thrown out the window, in favor of beliefs.
3. Grifters.
Selling books, movies, and such.

(415 posts)The truth is there are hundreds of videos and photos that clearly depict these objects. Some basic searching on google will provide the results.
The fourth group of UFO adherents include reputable scientists, military pilots, radar operators and civilian pilots with more to lose by reporting what they have seen than to gain.

(14,796 posts)although I think many citizens mistakenly believe that to be the case. UFO simply means the observation is of an unidentified object.
I find it odd this is being reported only by an American ship. Are there similar reports from any of the tens of thousands of boats on global waters at any given time?
My first thought was possible foreign surveillance devices such as drones, possibly launched from a sub. I'm not discounting the possibility of alien craft, but the probability of them being in forms we could see and relate to is extremely low.
Thanks for the OP, Yorkie Mom.

(8,387 posts)Everyone in this thread simply rejects time travelers out of hand. Because they are not prepared to believe that time travel is possible, then it would cause too much emotional stress for them to understand that UFOs are humans visiting from a much more technologically advanced time. Their rigid minds are made up, and they cant handle the truth.
Also, while the term angels carries a lot of cultural baggage, it is much more comforting to belief in fairytales like space aliens instead of coming to grips with the spiritual realm and the very real beings which inhabit the spirit world and interface with this world through the medium of what we perceive as UFOs.
Rigid closed-minded doctrinaire types latch on to space aliens and dogmatically reject alternative explanations.

(22,116 posts)There are more stars in this galaxy alone than there are grains of sand on Earth. And there are billions of galaxies. Each star should average at least a few planets. Let that sink in.
Now, I'm not saying they have been to Earth. But there is almost certain to be life somewhere else. There are trillions and trillions of planets out there. Extremely unlikely there's just one with life.

Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)I never understand why UFO discussions always turn into discussions of the possibility of life elsewhere.
I can only conclude that people are too dogmatic and rigid in their thinking to consider other explanations for unidentified aerial phenomena other than space aliens. They latch onto that as an explanation and we are off to microbes on Jupiter, which have zip to do with the subject at hand.
They are obviously the released soul energy of recently deceased people transiting through the atmosphere to their eternal destinations. Some of them are human time travelers from the future. Another group of them are an ancient human civilization which now lives beneath the surface of the earth and occasionally conduct surveillance of the surface.
But concrete thinkers will rigidly adhere to space aliens because their minds are closed to alternatives other than their own dogmatic and unsupported conclusions. People should be more open minded and not reject alternative explanations so quickly.

(5,154 posts)aren't particularly rare.
There's water on Mars FFS - the next planet over. I suspect we're not far off from discovering at least simple life forms exist or existed there at one point or another.
None of that proves we're about to encounter Klingons or Romulans the next solar system over, but I agree that statistically it's very unlikely that life started on earth and nowhere else in the universe, that we are the only complex life form in the universe, or that we are the most technologically advanced life form in the universe.
That same massive scale though works against any two complex, technologically advanced species running into each other at any given time.
So I'm not headed for the bunker yet.
But at this point in 2020/2021 I'm about to say fuck it all why not?

(35,135 posts)These are large sea creatures (that can also fly and light up, lol).
We already know about some ocean dwellers that can light up or "fly" temporarily. And a lot of sea creatures have that classic saucer / UFO shape.
Humans have only charted a tiny fraction of the oceans and ocean life. Maybe global warming is causing them to emerge more often than in the past? I wish they'd stick around and "chat" (aka allow themselves to be caught and studied) so we can finally move on from this mystery.
