I had some serious health problems last year, so I effectively retired in early March, nearly three months ahead of schedule. Then in July, I was hospitalized again; much longer this time. After five days in ICU, and 11 additional days in the hospital, I was transferred to a rehab floor.

When I got there they asked me the date. “Uh, late July.” Then I realized they were doing a mental wellness check, thought quick, and came up with July 31. Up until that moment, it literally hadn’t mattered to me what the day or date was, for nearly four months.

BTW, the memory test words were bed, blue, sock. I bet Donnie can’t remember his ten months later.

Pinchy, selfish, self centered, rude types. Never had much use for them but I used to be able to tolerate them in public. I find my ability to do so is less. I don't know if it's the added year on my age, the shock getting back in public more, or that the last year has flashed an overload on my TV of these folks and I've decided they can all sneeze off.

Soooo happy we have tomorrow off! What a difference one extra day makes. I feel so much more relaxed already.

So long as it was after business hours in the evenings, on the weekends, and while you were on vacation. But you had to be in the office during business hours.

I use to make this argument all of the time, and it went right over my boss' head. I would get emails 24/7 days a week and had to drop everything that I was doing to respond.

I've been fairly well adjusted to the rhythms of working mostly from home since, with some scattered off-by-one day fuzziness here and there.

For a few months in the fall I was in the office 4 days every other week, until the big, BIG winter spike in COVID ended that experiment. I just went back to the office for the first time since this past week.

Not as a protest, but because i had shit to do. And I'll still wear a mask today if some business asks me to do it. Because thats just being polite.

Even for those who had more reasons to be worried, there are plenty of ways to go out and about without much of an increase in risk

With numerous surgeries over the last twenty years, it was originally hard to keep track of the days, especially since I stopped watching network TV. After two of the surgeries (knee replacements) I stayed at a rehab hospital where they kept the Day of the Week up on the wall to help keep the patients (mostly very elderly with a lot of Alzheimer's patients) oriented.

So before the pandemic started I got into the habit of checking my calendar every morning so I am aware of the day of the week.

What I do lose track of is the day of the month because that is not as relevant to my daily functioning. But I try to check that on the calendar, too.

It happened to me sometimes in the past too, even while working for some company nearly every day. It especially happened at companies which had people working 7 days a week, and I'd sometimes be pleasantly surprised that I wasn't scheduled to work the next day because I'd lost track of the current day of the week.
