I swear, it happens to me a couple of times a week.
I thought today was Monday, Memorial Day.

(12,002 posts)I had some serious health problems last year, so I effectively retired in early March, nearly three months ahead of schedule. Then in July, I was hospitalized again; much longer this time. After five days in ICU, and 11 additional days in the hospital, I was transferred to a rehab floor.
When I got there they asked me the date. Uh, late July. Then I realized they were doing a mental wellness check, thought quick, and came up with July 31. Up until that moment, it literally hadnt mattered to me what the day or date was, for nearly four months.
BTW, the memory test words were bed, blue, sock. I bet Donnie cant remember his ten months later.

(113,971 posts)so as to avoid some problem doggies (and sometimes their owners). So, I'm always there by 6AM M-F and no earlier than 6:20 on the weekends. That alone keeps me "anchored."

(2,520 posts)Been working at the office since last year. 90% telecommute. I get businesses emails on weekends and after midnight now. When people come back it's going to be a shock to their system.

(40,037 posts)Since I've been medically retired since my 40's I don't look at a calendar or carry a watch unless its the fitbit. I've had to start keeping an appointment books and add long term one to alert my phone. I still screw up writing a check with the date.

(7,401 posts)Pinchy, selfish, self centered, rude types. Never had much use for them but I used to be able to tolerate them in public. I find my ability to do so is less. I don't know if it's the added year on my age, the shock getting back in public more, or that the last year has flashed an overload on my TV of these folks and I've decided they can all sneeze off.

However, on a long holiday weekend like this, I have found myself losing track of what day it is because I don't have any plans (It's rainy and cold here in Boston all weekend).
Soooo happy we have tomorrow off! What a difference one extra day makes. I feel so much more relaxed already.

(37,182 posts)So long as it was after business hours in the evenings, on the weekends, and while you were on vacation. But you had to be in the office during business hours.
I use to make this argument all of the time, and it went right over my boss' head. I would get emails 24/7 days a week and had to drop everything that I was doing to respond.

(15,909 posts)I've been fairly well adjusted to the rhythms of working mostly from home since, with some scattered off-by-one day fuzziness here and there.
For a few months in the fall I was in the office 4 days every other week, until the big, BIG winter spike in COVID ended that experiment. I just went back to the office for the first time since this past week.

Even for those who had more reasons to be worried, there are plenty of ways to go out and about without much of an increase in risk

(11,704 posts)but as others have said above, it's more work-related. Working weekends, days off during the week, working 14+ days in a row, long ago ruined any normal rhythm to know the day

(34,189 posts)With numerous surgeries over the last twenty years, it was originally hard to keep track of the days, especially since I stopped watching network TV. After two of the surgeries (knee replacements) I stayed at a rehab hospital where they kept the Day of the Week up on the wall to help keep the patients (mostly very elderly with a lot of Alzheimer's patients) oriented.
So before the pandemic started I got into the habit of checking my calendar every morning so I am aware of the day of the week.
What I do lose track of is the day of the month because that is not as relevant to my daily functioning. But I try to check that on the calendar, too.

(15,526 posts)It happened to me sometimes in the past too, even while working for some company nearly every day. It especially happened at companies which had people working 7 days a week, and I'd sometimes be pleasantly surprised that I wasn't scheduled to work the next day because I'd lost track of the current day of the week.
