Saturday.
I got to hug my vaccinated nieces and nephew. My great nieces and nephews. First time in a year plus.
The only two not vaccinated were the 5 and 1 !/2 year old.

(31,534 posts)I haven't seen those kids in a year! It was a beautiful day so we dined outside on the patio and had a great visit.
Next week I'm going camping with my middle son and his family at the lake. I haven't seen them in a year, either.

(83,933 posts)We did good.
Our little one never really new us. We saw each other from a distance, masked. With a little work we broke the ice. We built some Lego castles together.
Love and hugs to you and yours.

(11,949 posts)After a year of being isolated she is now gathering with her friends for, bridge, going out to eat and returning to her church.
All her card friends are vaccinated.
Ive been worried about her and have not seen her for 16 months.
Yeah, the wife and I can now do pretty much our normal thing now. But it is mother that means the most to me.

(83,933 posts)We all are still being careful. I will still where a mask to stores. Yet things are looking better.
One concern I have is what happens after 37 million are traveling for Memorial Day. Mandates have been lifted. I am still concerned, vaxed or not.

(11,949 posts)I wear my mask where requested. Manners, you know.
I think we are headed to 4-6 months of continuing 200-500 deaths daily. All among the unvaccinated. A year ago I would have been upset at those numbers, but Im past the point of empathy.
Had something cool happen that I think will become common. I am selling some some furniture on Craigslist. A young lady came by wearing a mask. The furniture was already outdoors. I held up a hand for her to stay back and told her Ill grab my mask but Im fully vaccinated. Her response was refreshing! Said no need for a mask and she was fully vaccinated but felt a cold coming on and did not want to spread it. I thought that very empathetic and decided anytime in the future I feel an illness coming on I will wear a mask.
I hope you have a meaningful Memorial Day holiday.

(24,438 posts)The truth of the matter is that, those of us whom have been following public health measures and guidelines and getting ourselves vaccinated, we are now able to SAFELY enjoy the FREEDOM of not having to continue to wear masks (unless we want to) and can resume some semblance of a NORMAL life, without worrying too much about getting sick or, more importantly, getting other people sick. My wife and I spent the day shopping at an outlet mall and, since we were vaxxed, we were not asked to wear masks at any of the stores we visited. It was really, pun intended, a breath of fresh air.

(10,920 posts)vaxxed? Did they ask you to show your vaccination card? Or did they not bother to ask. Just curious. I haven't been out shopping lately.

(24,438 posts)Honor system. They were operating based on current CDC guidance. There was a mix of people with masks and without. We live in Indiana. Most places outside of Indianapolis have little or no restrictions or mandates in place at the moment and Indy is due to lift our emergency orders in early June.

(17,336 posts)I had the nicest taste of normality on Friday. I had lunch inside at a friends house! There were 3 of us, all vaccinated. It was just a wonderful afternoon. First get together inside Ive been to since it all started.
Then we all masked up and went to a locally owned boutique for a bit of shopping!

Thanks President Biden. We're getting there.

(83,933 posts)I did that once in April. First for me with my niece. No one was there. Maybe six tables in a large restaurant. I felt a tad uncomfortable yet it eased and we had a great lunch.
