(3,204 posts)Hes not going to prison. In all probability he wont be going to trial -- although he will likely be called upon to testify against a flock of his top level supporters and, of course, his elder sons and daughter.
IMHO, of course. Ive been wrong often during Loser-45s campaign in 2014-15 and his term in office. Hell, I even thought hed issue a whispered concession after he was trounced by Biden/Harris.
But as far as criminal charges against him, I still stand with Quincy Maddox* of Rice University who said of the revelation of Trumps crimes: Aint nothin gonna happen.

(3,204 posts)(And spelcheck, I see, changed the word couping to coping -- Shoot, if Trump could cope like a goddamned man, he would have conceded to Biden, admitted to being Loser-45, and retired to a quiet place with a ghost tweeter to work on his memoirs.)

(60,321 posts)"Give me money so I can complete my reinstatement."
The Trumpanzees may send him ten million fifteen dollar checks, but an incumbent president who loses his re-election bid does not get "reinstated." If he wins, he gets formally elected by the Electoral College, and inaugurated by a swearing in by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court--or, if he loses, he goes home, which is exactly what Trump did.
Even Trump knows that John Roberts isn't going to tell the nation, "Just kidding!" and then swear in Trump for a second term in the middle of everyone's summer vacation.

(297,008 posts)He will never be reinstated -and I think DOJ needs to state this clearly

(60,321 posts)If I were Garland, I would continue to ignore him, and instead go after guys like Flynn, who really did hint at support for armed insurrection. Trump fantasizing about reinstatement is a political version of the Three Stooges. Flynn really seems to think hes a major character in Seven Days in May.

Some of the dialogue could have been taken from a Trump rally or a Republican speech in Congress yesterday.
and stagnates.

(11,555 posts)the more BS trump spews the more his "cult" donates to his "return" to office. With trump it's all about the money, and his revenge tour to take down every republican he can who is running for office in 2022.
He only wants "loyal" idiots who will do is will in positions of power. I still don't think he will run again.
This is purely a money grab. I think no one would be more surprised than Trump himself if he were ever to set foot in the White House again.

(106,401 posts)He doesn't have the energy or intelligence to overthrow the US government. His running dogs are looking at some stochastic terrorism to improve their own positions, perhaps. They want people terrified of MAGA mobs, so that they'll give in to Republican fascist power-grabs in states, and then Congress. Keeping QAnon types "hopeful" helps this.

(12,239 posts)Sometimes, it's all about a very naked and obvious ploy to enrich himself, but sometimes, there is complexity to it. Like this. This is almost Machiavellian, if Machiavelli had had a chromosome issue.

(26,267 posts)At this point, anything we do will be like lighting a match to a fuse. The arrest of Trump or Flynn would ignite the seditious civil war that they are pushing for. So, if we go ahead with the arrests that they have earned, we also need to be prepared to respond with strength to the rebellion that they want. And keep in mind that several members of the military and police share the seditious views of the traitors.
Rocky road ahead. Fasten your seat belts and wear a helmet. We will get through this, but it will be rough.

(55,478 posts)You hear the rhetoric from the election recounts, lawyers, Flynn, and now Trump. This is sedition in full public view. They can't resist telegraphing their intent and thumbing their noses at authority - "What are you gonna do about it?"
I'm glad that the best minds surround our President and elites of government service are weighing in.
I can't believe we'll go down without a fight.

(114,650 posts)He can't concede, his personality disorder make admitting he lost impossible.
Unfortunately, the personality cult following him will continue to follow the line of goalposts, just like they do in apocalyptic religious cults. When the event they firmly believe in doesn't happen, they just push the date back a little and deny they got fooled.

(35,089 posts)This is more glaring than the pre-911 warnings. Start with prosecuting the leaders of the terrorist cells: Flynn and drump! Anyone in Congress with ties to the insurrection needs to be expelled and investigated. Because guess what? If drump-coup 2.0 happens, the rethugs who fomented all the hate and treason will dodge all responsibility and blame Biden. Don't give them that chance- stop them now.
