(30,613 posts)#2 and #4 are OK - but come out with subpoenas blazing, and enforce the crap out of them. Coordinate with DOJ to ensure nobody gets off on a technicality.

(25,263 posts)No new probes is not an option.
We need to understand what happened & why. Prevent anything like this to happen again.
Hold those responsible for the insurrection accountable. Hold those that stormed the Capitol accountable.
Until this happens - those responsible - will think that they can get away with it again - and they will try to do just that.
The Republicans had their chance - its time to move forward and accept the fact they are going to call it a witch hunt.
Delaying another 3 months isn't going to change that. Rather, it will embolden their obstruction because its working.

(111,106 posts)I have no problem with giving the Senate another vote.
Otherwise, the Homeland Security Committee has proven itself capable of working together in a bi-partisan manner to get to the truth, would be my second choice.
A Select Committee would be third choice.

(8,338 posts)One and Two are the way to go. Get Leader Schumer to bring it back up the first day the Senate is back in session in June. If it does not pass, move immediately to a select committee. Here is the language
Establishes in the House of Representatives the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 1/6 Domestic Terrorist Attack on the US Capitol, to conduct a full and complete investigation and study and issue a final report of its findings to the House regarding:
all policies, decisions, and activities that contributed to the attacks on the U.S. Capitol on 01/06/2021 as well as those that affected the ability of the United States to prepare for them;
all policies, decisions, and activities to respond to and repel such attacks, including efforts to rescue Legislative and Executive branch personnel at the Capitol building;
internal and public executive branch communications about these attacks;
accountability for policies and decisions related to the security of the US Capitol, and the response to the attacks, including individuals and entities responsible for those policies and decisions;
executive branch authorities' efforts to identify and bring to justice the perpetrators of such attacks;
executive branch activities and efforts to comply with congressional inquiries into them;
recommendations for improving executive branch cooperation and compliance with congressional oversight and investigations;
information related to lessons learned from the attacks and executive branch activities and efforts to protect U.S. Capitol and
any other relevant issues relating to such attacks, the response to them, or the investigation by the House into the attacks.

(25,816 posts)I don't believe there is a path to 60 votes in the Senate. To do a second vote would be time consuming.
Homeland security may be a good option, but the way I look at it, the repubs had their chance.
Their position is well known. Nancy knows what to do and I'll bet she wants the select committee.

(8,338 posts)I dont believe that the Democrats would go with a no new probes option, but letting the Justice Department do its thing is an option.
Not a good option, but an option. The Speaker is putting all options on the table for discussion
