Five of the employees at the local McDonald's all

anti vaxers came down with COVID in the last week. They went for over a year without getting COVID. I suspect the recent relaxing of the mask mandate contributed to it. One of them a couple weeks ago was playing a video on his phone with some nut job claiming everyone that gets the vacinne will die within 3 years. A typical Q nut.

And how many of them watch Fox News 24 hours a day? There has to be a cross section there somewhere.

internet or Fox as gospel if it fits their agenda. Anything that is on a supposedly legitimate news station should have to be true but how do you enforce it? Fox likes to report "some people are saying " as a news source.
I an going to get my morning coffee elsewhere for a while.

I was sort of dumbfounded that he thought I would even consider it. I told him I still am not at that point, and probably wouldn't be for a long time.

I'm fully vaccinated, but 90-whatever percent isn't quite good enough for me to think it's okay to eat in a restaurant. But then, I'm not really a fan of restaurants anyway.

We picked a place with outdoor seating, and that's the only reason we'd go out to eat. We're both fully vaccinated, but her children are 8 and 6 1/2. No way we're even taking a chance of infecting them.
I've been told on DU that children don't get sick, and only 300 or so have died in the U.S. from it. If they want to take that chance with their children or grandchildren, they can, but why would they? That's what I can't understand. Masks aren't that uncomfortable, at least for me.

We have friends that have a 15 year old who caught it last February. She lived, barely, but now is disabled with major heart, liver, lung damage and problems for the rest of her life..........She is up to walking 25 feet now, but has to rest for ten minutes to walk back....
She was an athletic, soccer player and gymnast prior to catching it.

We still are far from knowing all that we need to know about Covid...............

Half the country believes that THEY are through with Covid, but I got to tell you, covid is not through with THEM......

I'm definitely not willing to take that chance with my own grandchildren.

By the logic of those who think "300 or so" deaths is an acceptable number, I wonder why they don't also refuse to put seatbelts on their kids. I mean, MOST kids aren't going to get killed in a car accident by being thrown from the vehicle, so why not just let them jump around all over the car when they're driving?!

I'm a worrier by nature, always thinking of the worst case scenario when it comes to the safety of the children in the family. I'd rather err on the side of being too cautious than have one of those kids be a statistic.

But I was dressed down, right here on DU, for even worrying about it.

I'm guessing this person had no children/grandchildren. They seemed so relieved they didn't have to wear a mask anymore, and couldn't understand why anyone would.

It takes all kinds I guess, just stay away from me and mine.

are two of very few people wearing masks at the grocery store now. Given that only 1/4 of the people in this county have been vaccinated (it's a trumper nest), that would indicate that the maskless ones are not vaccinated. I wish the cases among unvaccinated people were far more reported than they are. We used to get daily case numbers and death numbers, we need to stress those again, with added info on how many dead people were unvaccinated. Of course, if it's not on Fox or some other trump-led outlet, they won't know anyway...

and then to a couple other stores nearby. I wore a mask because, although I am vaccinated, I am not yet confortable without it.

At CVS, I was the only one wearing a mask. None of the employees or customers wore one. At the next store, all employees and customers wore masks. The cashier said it is still mandatory in their store. She added that, even when it is not mandatory, she will stiil wear one. She has cancer and the vaccine is not effective for her due to her treatments.

At the next store, masks were half and half. Some employees and customers had them, others didn't.

because I'm sure they're all counting on taking our stuff.

Of course, the good news now is that immunity, whether through the vaccine or getting the disease, is now estimated to last 8 months to a year and possibly longer. The latter is important because they really don't know how long the memory will last in the B lymphocytes and won't until more time has elapsed.

My own guess says that the virus will have to mutate substantially to get around our defenses.

I know several of the employees. My niece worked as shift manger in that store a couple years also. I heard of one or two that
