General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsBlack men have suffered the most in America.
They were buck broken, hung, dismembered, beaten emasculated, made to watch their women be raped and bear their oppressors children.
They have been robbed of their dignity and then looked at in disdain for being undignified.
Theyve been in chains and now behind bars more than any group in history.
America hates blacks especially black men.

(13,181 posts)targets today like black men continue to be.
Im sure many think that they should get over it and slowly they are but the recent assaults by police and anti BLM racism seem to be a way to keep them down.

there are many places black men can walk where black women would not dare

(18,486 posts)Trying to distract from the OP's point about the systemic racism that still plagues this country in general and Black men in particular with the "not ALL Americans" (translation, "not ALL white people" semantic game isn't a good look.

It is designed that way.

(22,474 posts)Black women, and the suffering of Black people against that of other minorities, within the white supremacist system of the United States of America. At the same time, while I resist comparing suffering, I *also* don't think that Black men are seen as the least worthy of community care in this white supremacist system. Black and Native women are. That's where my "bullshit" comment came from, and I apologize for sounding dismissive.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)They're highlighting the extraordinary hardships that Black men have. You may not agree with them, but that doesn't make the OP "bullshit."
WhiskeyGrinder
(22,474 posts)reacted to. Some of the hardships Black men carry are indeed unique. But I don't think it's possible to quantify that those hardships have made them suffer "the most," and I don't think it's useful to try.
There are things that can be quantified. Like, we know cops kill Black men at disproportionate rates; that is definitely a form of suffering, and if we focus efforts on improving outcomes for Black men, it can only improve things for everyone across the board.

(18,486 posts)Calling it "bullshit" is a bit much.
The opinions of people of color are all too often dismissed as "bullshit," "divisive crap," "hyperbole," etc. - usually by people who don't know what they're talking about, lack any real awareness of the problem and have no lived experience beyond having a Black co-worker or watching an episode of Blackish. You are usually much more sensitive and insightful than the average poster, so your reaction is surprising.

But I get it... this "biggest victim contest" you allege seems only to be brought up on DU when focus in placed on the AfAm community.

(3,271 posts)Seeing your name on a reply to one of my posts warms my heart right down to the cockles. The only way it could've been more thrilling would be if there had been a shrug emoji. Oh well, I can always wait with hopeful anticipation for your next reply!
While my joy at seeing your name again knows no bounds, it pains me to note that you really should work on your reading comprehension, because that's really not what I was saying at all. But you knew that, of course.

(32,626 posts)we come into this world and end up by happenstance in different circumstances. I could be an Iraqi, or Chinese, or Russian, or a black American. No matter what it would still be the only life I have. It appears as though there is no way I could survive in another ones shoes, but I know this is not true. We humans adapt. We bend. We laugh, we love, and we live, ..until we die.

And black women were the first victims of rape happening to them.

(9,153 posts)We have to fix America so that it works for everyone. We have a long way to go. And we have to be mindful of all the groups that have suffered, how they've suffered, and that we owe it to them to fix it.

(13,181 posts)Calling this BS or pointing to other groups is like saying all lives matter or blue lives matter etc.
My intention was to provoke thought not to be divisive.
Yes indigenous people suffered. So do black men. Fifty percent of arrests in America are of blacks primarily men.
Fifty percent of those exonerated are guess who? Guess what gender?
These acts have gone on for centuries.
What other groups have been affected for a similar length of time?
