Bottled water manufacturer ordered to cease production after reports of liver failure, hepatitis

A Nevada-based bottled water manufacturer, Real Water, Inc, has agreed to cease operations until it can comply with federal regulations after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found the water was the only “common link” among cases of acute liver failure in five children. A federal judge yesterday entered a consent decree of permanent injunction against AffinityLifestyles.com, the owner of Real Water, Inc. The firm violated the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

According to the FDA, the water was the “only known common link between five cases of acute liver failure in children that occurred in November and December 2020 that was reported to the FDA in March. Since then, 11 additional cases of acute non-viral hepatitis in adults, including one death of a woman with underlying medical conditions, have been identified as linked to the consumption of Real Water brand alkaline water.”

According to the complaint, Real Water operated “facilities that fail to meet preventive controls requirements to control food hazards.” The complaint alleges the company manufactured the water “under insanitary conditions whereby they may have been contaminated with filth or may have been rendered injurious to health.

Real Water was distributed through the United States and sold on Amazon.com. The FDA said that anyone who thinks they may have been sickened by Real Water Drinking Water, Real Alkalized Water and Real Alkalized Water Concentrate, should see a doctor and report the problem to the FDA.

Real Water tech in charge of testing had almost no experience

Las Vegas-based Real Water, the focus of an ongoing U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into liver illnesses, hired a man with almost no experience in the business to oversee testing at one of its Southern Nevada bottling plants.

When the pandemic struck and businesses closed across the valley, Casey Aiken lost his job as a strip club promoter and was forced to look for new work. In June, he landed a job at Real Water’s since-closed plant on Desert Inn Road that paid $10 an hour, loading bottled water onto pallets to be shipped out for home deliveries.

He knew nothing about the company.

“Never heard of it, never drank it, never seen it,” Aiken, 40, told lawyers during a videotaped deposition in late March in connection with at least 10 civil complaints that have been filed against Real Water.

Most North Dakota waters are alkaline, with a pH value above 8. Acidic water (pH below 7) is not common in most of North Dakota; however, some reports indicate acidic water in the western part of the state in proximity to lignite coal veins.

High alkalinity may cause digestive upsets, laxative action, poor feed conversion, and reduced water and/or feed intake.

My recollection is that the "laxative action" lasts a few days until your system adapts.

...against a Catholic woman who worked for him. Wait, it gets "better." The woman's name...

Grecia Echevarria-Hernandez filed a discrimination lawsuit April 26 {2016} against Las Vegas-based AffinityLifestyles.com, also known as Real Alkalized Water. (link to his wiki entry) Republican Assemblyman Brent Jones is president of the company. His son, Blain Jones, is executive vice president of the company and also is running {ran in 2016 } for a state Nevada Assembly seat. {ran in 2016 and lost} {emphasis added with links}

On her first day, Echevarria-Hernandez said she was forced to watch several videos with religious undertones, including “The Secret” and others based on Scientology.

Her supervisor later told her that she could get a 25-cent raise if she participated in self-betterment courses, and the plaintiff said she tried to sit through one of the classes. But it also had to do with Scientology and made her feel uncomfortable, so she left early.
