Seems like they are related to any bug with an exoskeleton.

Think cockroaches and you will understand his aversion...lol.

In the 1870s grasshoppers swarmed over 1,000 miles north to south and about 100 miles wide in the US. They ate everything, even paint, fabric, saddles, etc. Thousands starved since two years of crops were eaten by them. They crunched under your feet and crawled up your clothes. Only a few people chose to eat the bugs, even though they are high in protein and are common in other cultures. A lot more would have been saved if they could just bring themselves to eating the insects.

12. Agree completely. When starving, food is food.

At that point in time, the grasshoppers were the best source of protein and other essentials.

Sad that most people did not grok that fact.

As far as I'm concerned, lobsters and crabs ARE bugs. I don't eat any kind of shellfish at all, not just the buggy ones. I love actual fish, but basically all invertebrates are a nope for me (as food). I know I'm weird, though. I'm almost positive I have ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) although I've never been diagnosed. There's a long list of things I. Will. Not. Eat.

The whole time I was growing up and for quite a while after, I felt like a freak. Eventually, I stopped caring and figured out that owning my weirdness was the way to go. Now, if someone comments on what I'm (not) eating, I say, "Yeah, I know, I have very weird eating habits." It's amazing how fast people lose interest in criticizing you once they realize that you know you're weird and really don't care what anyone else thinks about it.

Not so for people needing vaccine bribes and cicada-eaters.
