At the watering hole, there is this former Navy corpsman (wingnuts ridiculed civilian OBAMA for pronouncing it CORPSEman) who is in his 30s and owns a specialized wheelchair business. He thought we would bond over having both been in the Navy, but I immediately brought up politics and he thought he had the high ground by saying he is not partisan, makes up his mind for the better candidate, although (not partisan?) believes that the Democratic party stands for welfare.
The first time I asked where his wheelchairs get billed, he denied it was from Medicare. When I brought it up a week later he admitted that Medicare is his source of income, so I pointed out the hypocrisy of his voting for the Rethugs, who want to do away with it, besides his living off of a Democratic program while having contempt for others who need the social safety net. He said, They do NOT want to end Medicare!1" Also, he bragged, This election is going to be decided by people like me, the ones who are UNDECIDED, to which I replied, People who dont know what they stand for are IDIOTS. So this ended the potential bonding period. Now he still greets, but keeps a distance.
Over the years, the topic has been raised passingly but recuringly as to WHO ARE these Undecideds? There used to be the implication that they are somehow high-minded or objective or impartial or something. Its been only recently that the pundits have taken to labeling them low information voters.
So these will be the ones generating the questions for tonights townhall (wouldnt a genuine town hall include random-everybody?), a format that lends itself to ambush questions, particularly if Candy CROWLEY is picking the questions or wielding the follow-ups that she is not supposed to do.

(31,849 posts)that people would brag about being "undecided" ... especially in this election cycle, where the divisions are so clear.
It also amazes me that so many people that owe their next meal to the government would back someone who has told them, repeatedly, that he plans to take that food from their mouths.
I was listening to an NPR segment on "undecided voters" in Northern Virginia. They interviewed an owner of an IT group that consulted with the government. He said that he was undecided, but was leaning gop because of the ryan budget and welcomed the U.S. going over the fiscal cliff because it was time we dealt with the deficit/debt problem, because "I have kids and I don't want to burden them with this unsustainable debt."
When the interviewer mentioned that the ryan budget and going over the fiscal cliff would no doubt have an impact on the government's ability to contract out services, this idiot actually said, "Well, I'm willing to risk my livelihood to rein in this unsustainable debt."
So let's re-cap ... this idiot is willing to, almost certainly, place his kids at risk today, because he doesn't want them to maybe experience risk in 20 years.
