I am beginning to get nervous about this election, in no small part because many of the most important issues at stake have gotten lost in all the horse race blather.
I put this together to try and bring those issues back to the forefront. If you find it suitable, please share it on your social media, other forums, via email...hell, print it out and leaflet your town. Feel free to alter any portion of the text if you deem the language too harsh for your intended audience.
Thanks.

If Romney Wins:
* Every woman you know is in deep trouble. Basic health care services for women will be eviscerated, and any woman seeking an abortion will likely have to face the unnecessary humiliation of a transvaginal ultrasound (read: penalty dick), because the movers and shakers in the GOP still think it was a bad idea to give the ladies the vote in the first place (as they have often stated, a fact Google can show you with ease), so control over their bodies is out of the question.
* Anyone with a pre-existing health condition is in deep trouble...which, in the long run, means every single person you know, and you as well. More than 81,000,000 Americans suffer from one or more forms of cardiovascular disease; more than 11,000,000 Americans currently suffer from some form of cancer; 23.6 million Americans currently suffer from diabetes, and the Center for Disease Control estimates as many as half of all Americans will suffer from the disease by the year 2050; between 50,000 and 60,000 new cases of Parkinson's are diagnosed in America each year; some 400,000 Americans currently suffer from MS. That's you, Charlie, and everyone you know, and everyone you will ever know.
* Anyone you know in the middle class, or hopes someday to be in the middle class, is screwed. Romney and Ryan will drop an extra $2,000 a year tax bill on you to finance their intent to continue the failed policies of trickle-down economics by gifting a massive tax cut to their wealthy non-47% friends. Education scholarships will be eviscerated, jobs programs will be obliterated. I hope you like where you're at in life right now, because if Romney wins, you'll stay right where you are if you're lucky, and likely sink even further if you're not...and when was the last time you were lucky?
* Your parents and grandparents will be doubly screwed when Romney unleashes Paul Ryan's budget on the American people and annihilates Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Growing old in America will be tantamount to growing poor again, and guess what, Charlie? You're going to grow old, too.
Just so we remember what we're talking about. This isn't about who slings the BS better in a debate, whose ad campaign is slicker, who looks better in a suit, or who you'd most like to have a beer with. This isn't my team vs. your team nonsense. This is you, your family, your friends, and pretty much everyone you know facing an incredible, debilitating attack on the basic quality of life too many of us have come to take for granted.
That quality of life is not guaranteed, and if Mr. Romney wins in November, it is going to come down around our ears with a mighty crash.
Fact.

(13,305 posts)It's making me more motivated to get out and vote and make sure people I know do. But I'm getting a sinking feeling very similar to what I had with Kerry in '04. All the "good news" that is coming out requires that things be looked at through such specific prisms, and from certain angles and squinting just the right way.

(20,776 posts)I really don't get how people with any kind of common sense could vote for a liar like Romney? But then, I have learned a long time ago, that such a thing as common sense has left this country long ago. What some (Republican and Tea Party) voters use as criteria to cast a vote in this country is sadly lacking in good sense.
I also want to say; Damn, I hate Fox News, and the lazy Americans who use them to do their thinking for them.
