(20,803 posts)to part with some of his BILLIONS (yuck, yuck) to give $100 to every anti-vaxxer. Would that make them happy? Probably not.

(151,532 posts)Acquiring significant immunity is more than enough for me. My wife and I survived long enough to get vaccinated. I couldn't be happier.

(151,532 posts)The Vaccinations are free. It's difficult to conceive of not getting vaccinated in my mind. Somehow I doubt that resisters would be moved by a sum as small as $500.
Everyone can get the vaccine at no cost. If that's not a good enough incentive, I can't imagine a monetary award for getting vaccinated would have much of an impact.
More important, I think, would be making it easier to get the shots. I had to drive 15 miles and stand in a long line in a convention center with lots of traffic and parking that was quite far from the vaccination area.
It's easier now, in most cases, but there are few places to get the vaccine that do not require going somewhere to get it. Is it convenient to a metro bus stop? That seems to me to be the real question for those without transportation and the time to get to the vaccination site.

(914 posts)We just got my daughter's boyfriend started on his vaccination.
He's not anti-vaccination. He has severe asthma, and apparently has had some negative reactions to vaccinations (occasionally ending up in the hospital with lung involvement). He's in that phase where he wants to impress his girlfriend's parents. Not ashamed to say we took advantage of it. He had his first shot about a week ago. I walked him through his vaccination options, talked him down from some of his fears, and next thing I know he's signed up for his first dose. Bit of a false start - since he wanted Pfizer (fewer side effects), and when he got there all they had was J&J. So he went back a couple of days later - and he's now halfway done.

(26,585 posts)Mostly because the rules going forward (at least in California) sound like, if everyone is vaccinated the rules relax, but if even one is not, then all are treated as unvaccinated. Hence the strong economic incentive to reduce cost and get the whole workforce vaccinated. I'm surprised more companies haven't mandated it instead. But I think they're still weary of legal implications despite government okaying of mandated workforce rules.

(4,170 posts)But I'd imagine that there are many, many people out there who could use $500 and probably even need it.
That being said, I've got mixed feelings about paying people to take the damn vaccine when there are people dying in other countries who would do anything for the jab.

(29,949 posts)Like Colbert. Vaccine passports for all vaxed people.
Any public business could require them. Just like ids at a bar.

(1,278 posts)The infrastructure for doing vaccine passports is already in place with the COVID-19 NC app that lets you know of nearby infected individuals. Simple to add a verified vaccine card to it.

(24,906 posts)some expert said give everyone who gets it $1,000. He put the price of that at 80 billion dollars. In pandemic language, that's chump change.

(5,377 posts)Actually, $1000 retroactively if you had your first shot within a month of when you qualified (or were able to get an appointment). $750 within 2 months. $500 now-July. And then it goes down some more.
Really tired of this stuff, that free shots so you won't die isn't incentive enough.
