Conservatives are spending big on bashing Anthony Fauci

Conservatives are fundraising, list-building, and spending big on bashing Dr. Anthony Fauci, an effort that has redoubled following the release of his emails through various Freedom of Information Act requests this week. But while the emails have given Fauci's critics new fodder — albeit, with a distinctly conspiratorial bent — they're also the culmination of a months-long effort to discredit the nation's top infectious disease expert. In the past month, for example, Republicans and conservative interests have dumped some $300,000 into Facebook ads targeting Fauci, Politico reports based on data from Bully Pulpit Interactive.

More recently, conservatives have selectively pointed to Fauci's emails to make the false claim that the correspondences offer proof the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases "privately supported a theory that the virus leaked from a Chinese lab and lied about masks in an effort to amass political power," Politico writes, going on to clarify that "neither was true. Fauci has said he thinks it's more likely that the virus spread from animal to human but would not rule out a lab leak, and while he initially downplayed the need for masks, it was, he said, out of fear that medical professionals would lose access to them if the public began panic purchasing."

Still, conservatives sense their opening. Former President Donald Trump's senior advisor, Jason Miller, explained to Axios that the reaction to Fauci among the politician's base is "visceral": "People see Anthony Fauci and they think of shuttered businesses, lost school." Trump reportedly plans to capitalize on that emotion, and make Fauci his "new Hillary" at upcoming rallies, Axios adds.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee, meanwhile, is also fundraising and list-building through longtime Fauci critic Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who is calling on President Biden to fire the NIAID director.

Jason Miller is involved. That explains why they came up with such an inane idea. Go ahead and self immolate GOP.

Edit number two. The dotard's behind this.

Trump plans to rail against Dr. Fauci and harp on election fraud conspiracies as he returns to the rally circuit

Former President Donald Trump plans to reprise his set of greatest hits as he prepares to return to the rally circuit: going after Dr. Anthony Fauci and harping on his grievances about his 2020 election loss, according to Axios and CNN, respectively.

Trump has been laying low since leaving the White House, and tried running a short-lived blog after being de-platformed from social media. As the 2022 midterms approach, however, he is reportedly gearing up to resume regular public appearances for the GOP.

Trump is making his first public speech in months at a North Carolina Republican Party dinner on Saturday. He's then set to appear at CPAC Texas, a major conservative conference to be held in Dallas from July 9-11.

With the GOP struggling to land successful attacks on President Joe Biden, Trump plans to most heavily target Fauci, the White House chief medical adviser, in the same way that he fixated on 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for years after defeating her.

Trump and company have provided targets. It's incredible in a supposedly educated and enlightened country as the US that these absolute bigots and crazies exist. If they want to go off and kill themselves with their ignorance of vaccines, fine, but don't drag the rest of us into their insanity. The stupid in the US is really running deep. US = United Stupidity, often, sad to say. Just the fact 85M people voted for an asshole demented person like Trump says a lot about where many people stick their heads.

They seem to always need an enemy, even if they invent one seemingly out of thin air.

I remember suddenly hearing a bunch of anti-Bill Gates comments from coworkers around the year 2000, perplexed by it. It's not like I was ever particularly impressed by him, but it was strange to me.

I later learned it was around the same time that his philanthropic foundation was founded! So my guess is that such philanthropy bothered some fat cats in this country, and their demonization then spread among their hateful followers.
