A guy gets hired at a promising Silicon Valley start-up. He's there for his first week, trying to get to know everyone and get along. On friday afternoon, the boss comes over to his cubicle and says "Hey, a bunch of us are getting together after work today and we wanted to know if you'd like to join us?" Thinking this was great and he was making new friends, He said "Sure. What are we going to be doing?"

The boss says "Working."

Apple will have employees return to office buildings three days a week, with the option to work remotely twice a week, beginning in September, the Verge reports.

In a letter to employees this week, CEO Tim Cook outlined plans to have workers back in the office by fall on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and those with manager approval can work remotely on Wednesdays and Fridays each week. Some teams that require in-person work will be onsite four to five days a week.

If everyone works from home, that thing becomes worthless. That's probably why the employees have to come back.

But the young talent Apple competes with the other tech giants for want to work from home. It's a huge priority for young workers. The best young engineers are going to pick the companies that offer them work from home, it's a bigger deal than salary right now. These young engineers are what you build your company on, they innovate, they become the core of your technology, your subject matter experts.

Finding and retaining young talent right now is tough.
