He doesn't think he will be reinstated.
Anybody watching him the last 4 years would see he is an ignorant ass who just says bullshit.
If people react to it, he keeps saying it.
He will keep saying bullshit to get reactions and feed his ego.
He is also saying shit to stay out of jail.
Fortunately, his cult has nothing to say about that.

(15,675 posts)Probably both. He's going to be able to fleece his flock a little more, and there's a good chance that indictments will start raining down on him and his worthless kids before then or actually in August which will rile up his flock who will think that he's being cheated out of being reinstated. In regards to the latter, he's probably hoping that the threat of violence will make prosecutors leave him alone.

(5,179 posts)Out of fear of Trumps flock, then they should never arrest another person of color because of fear of unrest.
If the United States Government is that chicken shit, then they should never mess in the affairs of another country.
If the Bidens DOJ is that afraid, then they should hand over the keys to the stupid bitch from Ga.

(13,013 posts)Based on various things I've read lately, I tend to think that, aside from anything else that may be going on, he's genuinely delusional.
Of course I can't prove it, but that's my take, fwiw.

(13,013 posts)That's delusional.

(5,179 posts)Version of reality.
This will also serve in his defense, he is bat shit crazy.
Now the funny part, just imagine what 75 million people will feel when they discover that he is bat shit crazy and has been for years, and that numerous professional people in the mental health field will testify to that - and including people that were close to him when he held the levers of government.

(12,541 posts)voter suppression laws to be passed nationwide PLUS laws that let GOP legislatures overturn the results of any election if they dislike the result.
His LIES serve multiple purposes: keeping money pouring in, keeping idiots angry so they'll support tossing Democracy in the shitter and so they'll attempt another violent coup if a Democrat ever wins any public office again - especially the Presidency.
He knows EXACTLY what he's doing and WE know why.
The fact that it provides him with the narcissistic supply he lives for -- is just the cherry on top of Democracy's casket.

(12,598 posts)Trump is so unmoored from the real world that it is hard to know where to begin in attempting to explain him".There is 'nothing to be gained' for a POS like Cooke, to say Trump is living is la la land, but here it is.
The editor of National Review doesn't put his reputation out there for fun.
Donald Trump does indeed believe quite genuinely that he along with former senators David Perdue and Martha McSally will be reinstated to office this summer after audits of the 2020 elections in Arizona, Georgia, and a handful of other states have been completed. I can attest, too, that Trump is trying hard to recruit journalists, politicians, and other influential figures to promulgate this belief not as a fundraising tool or an infantile bit of trolling or a trial balloon, but as a fact.
And there is no upside
Donald Trump [cannot] be reinstated to the presidency. That is not how America works, how America has ever worked, or how America can ever work. American politicians do not lose their reelection races only to be reinstalled later on, as might the second-place horse in a race whose winner was disqualified. The idea is otherworldly and obscene. There is nothing to be gained for conservatism by pretending otherwise. To acknowledge that Trump is living in a fantasy world does not wipe out his achievements or render anything else he has said incorrect.

(33,643 posts)The takeaway for them is 'This isn't a scam, cause Trump really believes it'.
And all that entails.

(12,598 posts)To the extent the guy 'really believes' in anything, he believes his magical thinking can bend reality to his will; Like a sharpie changing the course of a hurricane. For all the people telling him it can't be done, he only needs a frootloop or three to say that it can. After all, wiser heads told him he could not win the nomination and election in 2016, didn't they?
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)One example is the thrill he'd get from watching a whole bunch of people do something so radical on his behalf. I can think of a few others.
Not to say you might not totally be right, but I think it's a mistake to act like we're certain about anything with that guy, other than the fact that he's a pathological narcissist.

malaise
(296,111 posts)but the reason he says these things is because he lost it ages ago. He is such a sick narcissist that he will say and do anything to keep power. He really believes he is above the law and that he is some kind of gawd - that is madness
the not knowing or caring what the truth is was there from the beginning.
So he is behaving as he had been all along.
The talk of him "losing it" assumes he has somehow changed since he was ousted.

(15,909 posts)Trump definitely just says shit for the reaction it gets, and any advantage it might give him.
But, while I can't be certain about this, on another level doing the above has been so successful for Trump that I think there's a good chance he believes he can make the shit he says come true, and is genuinely shocked when it doesn't work out that way.
