Can I just say that I am getting really fed up with Joe Manchin

Last edited Sun Jun 6, 2021, 08:20 AM - Edit history (2)

Same with Kyrsten Sinema. Either of them will say anything. Manchin pretending that if he voted to modify or abolish the filibuster the folks in WV would have his head. Lots of good honest working people there but I’d say maybe ten percent know what a filibuster is. Both of these people should go back home and educate voters regarding the merits of Biden’s agenda. It’s all about the fifteen minutes of fame.

Here: https://thefga.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/West-Virginia-Filibuster-Poll.pdf

Interestingly, while 40% would oppose ending the filibuster to help Biden pass his agenda, 38% support it.

The big takeaway:

“If West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin voted to get rid of the filibuster, would you be more or less likely to vote to reelect him?”

More Likely 30%
Less Likely 52%
Unsure 14%

If I were a senator and were basically told "you need to vote for this to save our Democracy, but you'll probably get voted out if you do", i would realize the good of 350 million Americans is more important than my job, and vote for it.

stands for why does he insist on calling himself a Dem. He seems to really love the attention and the spotlight. Really I can’t understand why West Va supports Trump. He promised to bring back factory jobs and did nothing. Biden needs to call him in and say. “Joe we are moving on”. “It can either be with or without you” “If you can’t give me at least some support we’re ditching the filibuster.”

they just have to change the rules so it takes more than one Senator saying s/he wants a filibuster. Make them stand on the floor of the chamber and talk until they fall over.

Manchin has indicated he wouldn't even support that.

Sorry to tell you, it ain't Manchin & Sinema. Other Senators on that side of the aisle oppose ending the filibuster. People leading the executive branch don't perceive the magnitude of the the threat to democracy. People close to you don't care or don't believe. It's bad.

They've already removed the filibuster for judges and won't hesitate to eliminate it altogether if Dems try to use it.
They will then revise voting law so Democrats can never again become a majority and the US becomes a one party dictatorship forever.

Our only hope is to remove it now and pass strong voting laws that protect our democracy.

Fact: More than 2:1 WV'ers chose Trump over Biden.

Just thank God WV doesn't have 2 GOP Senators.

Ted Cruz or Josh Hawley or Tom Cotton is Majority Leader without Joe Manchin on Team Blue.

18. Absolutely. Ask Joe Manchin About the Mountain Valley Fracking Pipeline Running Through WV
Sat Jun 5, 2021, 08:57 PM
Jun 2021

On Wednesday, June 3, 2021 at 5:45 A.M., Mountain Valley Pipeline protesters Valerie Hahn, Ethan Hughes, and Dylan Bremmer dressed as ducks and locked themselves to a 12’ by 8’ wooden Wood Duck blocking access to a Mountain Valley Pipeline easement and equipment yard in Giles County [at the WV - V state line]. An additional protester sat on top of the duck. Nearby, about a dozen people gathered to support the Wood Duck protesters at the scene. Banners at the rally read, “No Pipelines,” “All Mothers Protect Their Children,” “Mama Duck Says ‘Water Is Everything’,” and “No MVP.”

Hahn, a farmer and pagan minister from New York, traveled to Giles County for the protest with her 14-year-old daughter. “I am here with my daughter so that she knows there are regular people who care enough about her future that they will try to stop this senseless construction—construction that citizens don’t want, the owners themselves can’t pay for, and that even investors know no longer makes sense,” she said.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline is a 42-inch diameter, 300-plus mile, fracked gas pipeline that runs from northern West Virginia to southern Virginia, with a 70-mile extension into North Carolina. If completed, the MVP would be responsible for nearly 90 million metric tons of annual greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to the emissions of 19 million passenger vehicles or 23 average U.S. coal plants annually (source: Oil Change International). It contributes to climate change, increased demand for natural gas (and as a result, fracking, which means heavy water loss and pollution) and is entrenched in corrupt political processes.

The failing pipeline is 3.5 years behind schedule, several billion dollars over budget and still missing hundreds of permits for wetland and stream crossings. With the extent of public disapproval and the setbacks in the project, many see the project’s failure as inevitable.

Sure, he's a Democrat. I support Democrats. I don't care about his feeling safe.
I'm still calling him. ( (202) 224-3954 )
He is also silent about fossil forces up to no good for his and neighboring states.
This, imo, calls for political pressure he might try to head off in return for a yes vote on infrastructure and the filibuster.
