(26,366 posts)1. Manchin actually supports the John Lewis Voting Rights Act...

And since none of the election law bills are being taken up using reconciliation they will need 60 votes to avoid the filibuster and so need at least 10 actual Republican votes anyway.

So, let me get this straight: The same people who are supporting a wave of voter suppression laws only made possible by the gutting of the Voting Rights Act are now expected to support the reinstatement of that very act? This is gaslighting on the grandest scale.

(7,263 posts)3. If he REALLY supports it he will vote to end the filabuster.
Otherwise his words are just that...words.

(53,764 posts)10. He's so full of it. He says he supports it because it needs 60 votes...
which he knows won't happen. The Democratic "For the People" bill that can be passed by reconciliation, a simple majority, he's against.
He's nothing but a republican in sheep's clothing.

(11,256 posts)7. I've been asking the same question for the last year.
The best I can tell is that he's some random former journalist who tweets a lot. I agree with his tweets more often than not, but I'm positive that they won't move the needle with Manchin.

(9,412 posts)8. There is no person, no argument, no "thing"
that is going to change ManChins mind. Apparently to ManChin ManChin is more important than Democracy.

(2,268 posts)12. Manchin, by not voting to overhaul US election law, is actually voting to overhaul US election law.
Hes choosing the wrong side, not sure what his end game is.
