(2,476 posts)Voted not to certify the election. It's not that they would retain power forever, but they would try to. Do you live in America have you seen the progression of the Republican party? Republican legislatures all over the country are gaming the system to put partisan Republicans in charge of elections, and if they don't like the outcome they've given themselves the power to change it. This isn't hyperbole, I wish it were

But once they gain both houses and the presidency again, which is likely with so many states rigging their voting system for Republican wins, they will kill the filibuster because they won't allow Democrats to stand in the way of federal voting laws that will ensure a permanent Republican majority forever.
This is something that was never contemplated before. Everyone accepted democracy as a given. Now because of Trump they realized they can eliminate our democracy and remain in power without opposition like other world dictatorships.

(5,318 posts)I don't think so. I believe Manchin fully expects Republicans to kill the filibuster when/if they take power. He just doesn't care, because that would pose no great harm to his reelection chances.

(2,476 posts)Without Mansion or without Sinema, either or both, we don't have the majority in the Senate and the Republicans do. I say let them try to pass a few laws that they really want when they bang their head against the Republican Senate wall they may think twice, because we've got who we've got. I also have to say it's not the filibuster, it's closure, the amount of votes needed for closure of a filibuster
