More than 465 people have been arrested across nearly all 50 states in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Justice Department announced in a statement marking Saturday as 150 days since the insurrection.
A fact sheet released by the DOJ on Friday helps to illustrate what officials have described as likely the largest criminal investigation in DOJ's history, which continues to sweep up more suspects.
And investigators are continuing to search and seek tips on some of the most violent actors from that day. The department says it is still seeking tips to identify more than 250 individuals involved in assaults on officers or other acts of violence. So far, citizens around the country have provided more than 200,000 digital media tips to the FBI to assist in its investigations, according to the DOJ.
On Jan. 6, a rally in support of President Donald Trump turned deadly after Trump encouraged his supporters to march to Capitol Hill, where Congress was meeting to certify Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States.

I hope they catch every last one.

Their pathetic need for attention will end up getting them plenty of it- from the FBI and DOJ.

(8,218 posts)This is a huge investigation and I'm sure that people will cooperate in hopes of getting a lighter punishment for themselves. But I'm with you...I hope they catch every one and lock them up.

(55,138 posts)Law enforcement defends institutions all the time. I think the argument has gone around that they knew they were outmanned and didn't want a mob that could turn against them (and make if far worse). But I can't imagine LE putting up with this in most big cities or most major countries of the world.

Americans have the right to know why.

Which is to say nothing about their continuing participation in the ongoing coup.

(55,138 posts)or are we gauging a how far is prudent, or is this slow walk an indication of a much wider investigation. It's like peeling off multiple layers of an artichoke to get to the core.

(8,610 posts)I'm concerned that the Democrats aren't looking at the coup this way. I'm equally concerned that the Biden Administration is making some of the mistakes that Obama's seemed to in trusting the GOP to play by at least some of the rules. They seem to be unwilling to observe that the GOP leadership will never do so when their path to absolute power hangs in the balance. They appear ignorant of the idea that the coup is more than the sum of its parts, is driven by very coordinated tactics, and has leadership which is not wholly resident in the domestic political realm.

(55,138 posts)You're right about all that. But Democrats are nothing without capitalism and the GOP are the capitalists. There are no jobs without them. We don't like what they do, but that's the system, even if it is threatened by the home gig economy.
And two, if you don't have the votes in Congress, you don't have the power to enact what you want, and even if you did, you still need the will of the people, as the GOP is beginning to find out. Do politicians lead public opinion, or does public opinion lead politicians?
The two parties have been in a duopoly for 150 years. They scratch each others' backs when they're down or up, at least in normal times. But now we have two very divergent ideas about governance. Things are very dicey. So we're in a stalemate, much like the last 10 years.
